Liars (The Triad 2) - Page 19

Elliot just smiled at him.

“Mentally, emotionally, or physically?” he asked. I groaned and prepared myself to have to break up another fight.

“Look,” I said, walking over to push them away from each other. “We have her back. Can you two please chill the fuck out?” I gave Seb a little shove back, and he let me, taking the opportunity to circle the island and stare Elliot down from there.

“So Elliot will stay here with Scarlet,” I said. “Next hurdle to tackle is going to be what the fuck we are going to do with whoever is behind this shit.” I made my way back over to the counter to fill up my coffee and Sebastian’s. “We really need to figure out if her family was somehow involved in this mess.”

“You really don’t think they weren’t?” Elliot asked, moving to sit at the counter. “I mean, there’s no way they were able to get someone on the inside of that operation without being behind the entire thing. You’re born into the Mad Dawgs,” he said, rolling his eyes at the name. “They don’t accept newbies. Only blood.”

“Okay, so if they were working together, why didn’t they kill her?” I asked.

“That’s exactly my question,” Elliot scoffed. “And I’d like to have a very frank conversation with Scarlet about that.”

“You really think she was in on it?” Seb asked, clearly outraged. His entire neck and face turned bright red instantly. I took a deep breath. It was like dealing with children.

“I’m just exploring all the options,” Elliot told him, smiling at the reaction he got. Always the fucking shit stirrer lately. It was like he and Sebastian had traded spots. “As you both should be. Honestly, I expected you both to have that same question. The fact that you didn’t makes me worry that her pussy has wiped your brains.”

“I’m going on a fucking walk,” Sebastian said, storming out of the room. A few seconds later, the front door slammed. I sighed and turned my attention back to Elliot.

“I get it. I get why you’re suspicious of her. But I’m hoping leaving you two here to work out your demons will bring you back to your senses, El. She’s here to stay. She wasn’t a part of her own torture, and she sure as shit isn’t a mole.”

“Whatever you say, captain.” He gave a mock salute and turned to leave.

“Elliot,” I said, making him pause. “Don’t kill each other, and make sure you actually hear her out when you’re having this…discussion. Okay?” Another salute and he was out of the kitchen, probably headed off to the gym in the garage.

I downed my coffee, wishing we had thought to stock this place with alcohol before we left it last time. Caffeine just wasn’t going to cut it for much longer. I needed something stronger to get through the constant bickering.

God, I really hoped leaving Elliot here with Scarlet wasn’t going to come back to bite me in the ass.
