Pushing the Limit

Dash
Ifrown at the flashing lights behind me. Dammit. It’s been a shitty night already. I went to the Haven looking for Peppermint only to find out she’s off tonight. Then I went to her house and guess what? She wasn’t fucking home. She’s with him. I decided to take a ride on some back roads, try to clear my head. Now, I’m getting pulled over. As if the night couldn’t get any worse. Fuck. Me.
“License and registration.”
Officer Whitfield. I should have known. I take my helmet off and dig my wallet out of my pocket. I hand him my info. Without a word, he walks back to his squad car. I sit patiently, figuring I’ll get another ticket that will make my insurance rate go even higher.
“Step off the bike,” he orders.
“What’s the issue?”
“I said step off the bike,” he repeats, his hand on his gun.
I hold my hands up and climb off. He immediately shoves me forward, nearly causing me to knock my bike over. He pulls one arm behind my back and cuffs my wrist.
“Am I being arrested?”
“You have an outstanding warrant for an unpaid speeding ticket.”
“That’s bullshit!” I yell, resisting a moment before he gets the other cuff on. “I have paid all my tickets!”
“Must’ve missed one, Mr. Jameson Morrow. Or should I call you Dash?”
He jerks me back and starts shoving me toward the squad car. “Can I call someone to get my bike?”
“You’ll be allowed your one phone call after I get you booked in.”
Great. Just fucking great.
I stare out the window as he drives us to the police station. The cuffs are on too damn tight, cutting into my flesh.
“Why do they call you Dash? Is that some sort of road name for your club?”
I don’t answer him. He’s got a damn vendetta against us all. Unfortunately for him, that vendetta won’t be satisfied.
“I remember seeing your bike before. Once at the liquor store when you stopped to take a leak. The other time…where was it? Oh yeah. It was at Piper Rogue’s place. Pretty woman, but she’s a little too old for you, don’t you think?”
He’s baiting me, trying to get me to lose my cool. Not going to happen. He’ll book me in. I’ll make bail. No way I’m doing jail time over a nonexistent warrant. The only thing that scares me is if he can pull this off, what else is he capable of?
