Rocco's Atonement - Page 34

He stops beating on me and I collect myself, trying to come up with a plan. He opens the window and throws my phone out. I cry out and try to stop him, but he points the gun at me. I settle back in my seat and wait.

Moments later we pull up to the bank.

“Just for that, I want two million now,” he growls at me.

He reaches across my body and opens my door, then pushes me out. I barely catch myself from falling. He slips the gun into the pocket of his coat and grips my arm tightly as he drags me into the bank. I know I look bad when the bank guard immediately comes to attention.

“Are you okay?” he asks, and Milton looks around in fear as we hear sirens from outside. I see the panic hit him just before he pushes me away and pulls his gun. He takes aim at me, but the guard twists and puts himself between me and the bullet. He grunts and falls over me. We both land hard on the marble floor with him on top of me. The wind is knocked from my body as I hear more gunshots.

Rocco

My phone pings in my pocket, letting me know I have a text, and I pull it out.

Noah: Your girl just left the building with only one guard and Patience. They are walking to a coffee shop.

“What the fuck?” I grit out as I pull up her number to dial her.

Just as I’m about to push the button, a gunshot rings out close by. I drop, as does Damian. We see a car take off, but they don’t make it far in the traffic. I call in the shots fired and request backup as we give chase while keeping cover. I yank the driver’s door open and pull the guy out, slamming him to the ground as Damian does the same to the passenger. We have them cuffed and facedown on the ground when backup arrives.

“We were paid,” the driver says. “We didn’t know you were a cop. He just told us your name and where to find you.” His words slam into my brain. Only one person could do this.

“Where is Milton?”

“Getting the money,” the guy says, and I shove him toward another officer before I run for my unmarked car. Damian is fast on my heels. Again, I’m about to dial Guinevere when my phone rings this time.

“She was abducted from the back of the coffee shop. My guys are tracking her,” Noah says, and I can hear traffic across the line.

“Are you going to her too?”

“Yeah, but there is a lot of traffic.”

“He sent hitters after me.”

“Fuck, dude. Get here,” he says before he hangs up.

My phone pings again, and I toss it to Damian to read the message as I drive. I can’t lose her now. In my pocket is the ring I’ve gotten for her. She could be carrying my baby already. I’m not ready to end the happiness I’ve found.

“It’s a message from Guinevere. It says, ‘Beware. Milton sent someone to kill you. I’m sorry, he’s got me. We are heading for the bank,’” Damian says, and I turn up the next street with my sirens blaring as I head toward the closest branch of her bank to the coffee shop.

The car radio goes off with reports of a woman being assaulted in a vehicle, and my gut clenches knowing that is my girl.

“You got another text from Linc that Guin’s phone just stopped transmitting.”

“Motherfucker.” I pound my hand against the steering wheel as I wait for traffic to move out of my way so I can get around them to my girl.

At the next block, I take two lanes, making the turn, tires squealing, as other police cars join chase. There in front of the bank is a black SUV with the back door open. I watch as Milton comes out of the bank firing his gun. He sees the cop cars and takes off running. The SUV tries to take off but is blocked in. I jump out and give chase, not sure where Ever is but knowing if I don’t stop him, he’ll keep coming after her. I pass the SUV and see Carmen in the driver’s seat. I turn to look in the bank and see people on the floor, but I can’t see Ever. Fuck, where did he leave her? I run after him. He’s pushing people out of the way.

“NYPD! Stop,” I yell as I pull my gun. People jump out of my way.

Milton stops in the middle of the road and turns. He takes aim at me. I’m dropping to the ground when I hear brakes lock up and watch as a truck slams into him. I yell as Milton’s body goes flying through the air. He lands with a sickening thud a few feet away. His body crumpled. I run up and kick the gun from his hand. I lean over him and check for a pulse, but there is none. A woman screams, and I turn to see Carmen being pushed to the ground by officers as she sees her son. Another officer comes over to where I am, and I leave to find out where my woman is. I stomp over to Carmen.

“Where is Guinevere?”

“Hopefully the bitch is dead. You killed my son, you asshole,” she growls at me.

“Rocco!” I hear her and turn. I see a bank security guard helping her off the floor of the bank. I’m moving toward her. She’s bruised, beaten, and bleeding. It’s a good thing Milton is already dead or I’d kill him.

“This man took the bullet Milton tried to kill me with,” she says as she cries, and I look at the guard. He’s pulling his vest off.

“I owe you, man. What’s your name?”

“I’m Jared. It’s nothing. Asshole tried to take a potshot and got my vest.” The guard shrugs as if he didn’t do anything special.

“Thank you,” Guinevere says as EMTs rush up to help her.

“She’s right, thank you. You name it, Jared, and I’ll make it happen. You saved my woman; I can never repay you for that. She’s everything.”

“I get that.” He nods and I see the look in his eyes. I know that look well.

Hours later we are back home. Her in my arms in our bed. My ring on her finger. Her ass pink from my handprint for going anywhere without proper security. She promised to never do that again. I made love to her afterward.

Noah is hiring the bank guard to work for Securities International, and Ever wants him on her detail. I can’t deny the man put himself in harm’s way for her. Carmen was arrested for kidnapping. Milton, of course, is dead. The two gunmen he hired are in custody. Everything appears to have ended with only Milton dying. Guinevere has bruises and cuts but will survive without any scars. She told me why she left without proper security, but I told her next time invite the person here. Security could have protected her here easier.

My woman rolls slightly, moving her ass against my now erect cock, and I can’t stop myself. I lift her leg and slide into her tight heat. Relishing the fact that we are both alive and together. I slowly move in and out of her, tweaking her nipples as she reaches back and wraps her arms around my neck. My hand slides down her body to circle her clit as I continue to make love to her. When she finally shatters apart in my arms, I flip her to her stomach, raise her hips, and slam home again. I take her hard from behind. I grip the headboard as I work myself in and out of her body faster. When my balls pull up, she screams my name and I yell hers as I come hard and deep inside her. This time I know she’s going to be pregnant.
