“Sister Eileen?” I ask, referencing the physics teacher we had at our private Catholic high school.
“The off-duty version.” She shimmies her shoulders and I laugh. “This is how she dressed on weekends. I just know it.”
“Nice.”
She puts her hand on my chest, raises up to my ear, and whispers, “Should I stick close to you tonight?”
“Nah, it’s cool.” I pretend I don’t see the slight fall in her features.
“Okay.” She forces a smile. “I’m gonna get a drink.”
“I’ll come with. Get you your cup for free.”
“No, that’s alright.” She puts her hand up to stop me. “It’s a fundraiser for one of the girl’s cousins. He’s sick.”
“No shit?”
She shrugs. “Yep. That’s the whole reason for the party.”
“Damn. I thought it was because it’s almost Halloween.” I fumble through my wallet and pull out a bill. “I’m coming with.”
I follow Talia back into the kitchen by the keg, drop the hundred in the money jar, then head back off to find Dylan with his handle of rum.
Last hurrah, here I come.
