“I couldn’t even if I wanted to,” he murmurs with a glint in his eye.
Smiling to myself all the way down to the bar, I find myself again surprised at how he makes me feel. The last human who made my blood boil at this level and made me giggle like a teenager was Fraser. That unwelcome thought jolts me back to my surroundings. Pushing it aside, I collect two glasses and a bottle of chilled Sauvignon Blanc and place it on a tray with two bottles of water.
I feel a tickle on the back of my neck that can only mean Devon.
“What, you haven’t kicked him out yet?” comes a surprised question from the darkness of the terrace. “This is new.” He saunters in, glistening wet from a midnight swim.
I cast an appreciative glance over his hot, wet body and then avert my eyes. “He’s staying,” I reply shortly.
Devon raises an eyebrow at me but has the good sense not to comment.
“I need to get back upstairs,” I say, picking up the tray.
“Okay, Kitten,” he half teases me, giving me a quick kiss on the forehead. “Goodnight.”
“Goodnight, Devon,” I say quietly.
He knows something is different, that something has changed in me. A few hours ago, I would have kicked my lover out and before the door even hit his arse on the way out, I would have been ripping at Devon on the floor, while we fucked until dawn. I feel his eyes on me as I walk upstairs.
“You’re going to tell him, aren’t you?” he asks softly. I turn around, remaining silent. “You cannot tell him,” he adds.
“I haven’t thought about it,” I reply cautiously.
“Liv, sweetie, I know you. You have, but you can’t. You’ve known him five days. You don’t know how he will react. Just...don’t.” He looks at me helplessly.
“There’s somethin
g special about him, Dev. I don’t know what, but it feels like…like it did with you.” I finish this creepy thought off with a slight shrug.
“You barely know him. How can you even say that?” he asks, his hurt apparent.
“I knew you even less, Devon. Remember? And look at us now,” I say with meaning. He can’t argue with me.
He tries to scare me with a different tactic. “You know Constantine will freak if you tell this human, which means The Council will freak. Hell, Liv, Cole will freak! It's not so easy now,” he states.
“Look, I know all of this. I haven’t decided anything yet,” I snap. “I want to see where this goes. For all I know, I’m a one-nighter for him. But I can handle CK and I will deal with whatever happens.”
He just glares at me with angry eyes and a grim set of lips.
“Baby,” I whisper. “It’s been two hundred and sixty-seven years since I felt something even remotely like this. Please understand. I need you of all people to understand,” I beg him quietly as I put the tray down.
“Oh, Elizabeth,” he murmurs. “I do understand. But just think about what you are doing. Just promise me, you won’t rush into this revelation.” He sounds so serious. My darling boy, always the fun one, up for anything, telling me what to do with a grave look that doesn’t belong on his handsome face.
At a moment’s loss, I finally stammer, “I won’t, I promise.”
He pulls me forward and kisses my forehead. “Good girl,” he murmurs.
I turn from him and pick up the tray with a lot on my mind now.
C ole is waiting patiently for me as I return, not having moved an inch. It makes me smile as he grins at me.
“Good boy,” I praise, placing the tray on an end table. Peeling off my robe, I grab a bottle of water and uncapping it, I take a deep drink. Slowly, I crawl over him, brushing my nipples against his thighs, stomach and chest. I attach my mouth to his, releasing the water into his mouth. Groaning, he swallows and grips my head in place as he kisses me, biting my lips, which incidentally, drives me wild – although at this moment he will never know just how much.
“More,” he rasps.
Happy to oblige, I retrieve the bottle and proceed to quench his thirst. Down to the last few mouthfuls, I say, “Open up,” and as he does, I pour the contents, waterfall style, into his mouth, lapping up the spillage with great relish.
“Sorry,” I apologize. “I couldn’t help myself.”
