“Very well,” she says. She flicks her long, blonde hair over her shoulder and fixes me with those cornflower-blue eyes. “Your husband has been lying to you.”
I open my mouth to ask which one, but then close it as it is obvious, she means Xane.
“Oh?” I ask nonchalantly, cocking my hip, trying to appear unconcerned.
“Mm,” she says and narrows her eyes. “He knows something, and he hasn’t told you yet.”
“If it is how to reverse-turn a Vampire, then you are too late. I already know,” I say archly.
Her eyes widen again in surprise and her expression makes it clear that is not what she is so desperate to tell me. Damn me and my big mouth.
“While that is an interesting topic, this is something far more valuable to you, I believe,” she says, recovering quickly.
“Really?” I ask. “And what would your price be, exactly?”
“Your husband,” she says.
Aefre wants to blurt out that she can have him, when CeeCee continues, “Not in the strictest sense, just as a casual thing.”
I blink at her and then at Xane who has popped in uninvited and say to her, “You want to be my husband’s mistress?”
She nods, keeping her eyes on me and not on Xane, which I find peculiar.
“CeeCee,” he growls. “How dare you after I told you to go to Hell.”
I look between the two of them. “You have already discussed this?” I ask Xane.
“No,” he says to me, stepping a bit closer. “She offered and I turned her down.”
“Why?” I ask and end up on the receiving end of an icy-blue stare.
“Why?” he repeats in disbelief. “Why?”
I roll my eyes at him. “I mean why did she offer?”
CeeCee clears her throat and taps her long nails on my desk. “I am still here, you know,” she says, and I turn back to look at her. “If Xane were to accept me, even in this way, I wouldn’t be shunned any longer. I would still be deemed good enough to wed.”
“Really?” I ask her again. “You think some man would want to marry you after you have whored yourself out to a married man?”
She hisses at me and Xane stands in between us.
“CeeCee, get out,” he says. “You have no right to come to my wife to ask her this.”
“I have every right,” she says. “I know your secret.”
Xane looks back over his shoulder at me with a puzzled look and I shrug.
“I know you know the whereabouts of the Vampire’s blood whores,” she says with her hands on her hips. “Word has it the Queen has been looking for them.”
I gasp as her words register in my brain. How the fuck does she know that?
Xane quickly spins around. “I was going to tell you, Xerxei. It was just never the right time with everything that has happened over the last few months,” he says.
I put my hand up to stop him from trying to touch me. “You know where the Dark Fae are that are kept for their blood?” I ask, my stomach clenching into a tight ball as I had all but forgotten about trying to find them.
“Yes,” he says quietly.
“The ones that are used for the Silver spell so that Vampires can withstand sunlight?” I ask in a high-pitched squeak, needing to make sure we are talking about the exact same ones.
