“Fuck you,” Constantine says mildly. “I have never had to steal an idea in my life. I am not about to start now.”
“No, I don’t suppose you have,” Devon says. “Well, I think it has to do with Cade’s resuscitation.”
“Agreed. Remiel is the man’s new sire,” Constantine voices his thought out loud for the first time.
“Yep,” Devon says. “It’s like one mind.” He lets out a loud guffaw as Constantine scowls at him.
“You wish,” he mutters.
“So, what do we do about it?” Devon asks. “Kick his ass?”
“While it is a solid plan, I think we have to be a bit more covert. We may have figured out that he has switched sires, but we don’t know if he is a threat yet.”
“Yet,” Devon says. “He betrayed her once.”
“So did you,” Constantine accuses.
“Hah, p
ot and kettle, old man,” Devon says.
Constantine glares at him. “Call me that again and I will beat you into the ground.”
“Well, it’s a step up from tearing my head off,” Devon replies with a smirk. “See, we are making progress.”
“Removing your head can always be arranged,” Constantine snarls at him, but there is no menace in it to his own surprise.
“I have a question,” Devon says. “When was the last time you ripped someone’s head off?”
Constantine is startled by the question. “Too long ago,” he says gruffly.
“Well,” Devon says brightly. “Save it for when we go to war.”
“Indeed,” he says darkly. He cannot wait to wrap his hands around Remiel’s neck. “Back to the matter at hand. I will get Nico and bring him here. He will get close and find out what is going on. Cade won’t buy it from either one of us.”
“Good point. He knows I loathe him,” Devon says with a nod.
“As I loathe you,” Constantine says with a smile.
“Back at you,” Devon responds and with a little wave he Astraports out of the bedroom, to which Constantine raises his eyebrow.
Interesting. It seems his Demonic powers are revealing themselves. That will be useful in the coming war, especially as Aefre won’t have to worry about protecting him if he can protect himself. She is going to need to concentrate all of her efforts on herself, and anyone who is a weak link needs to be taken care of. He Teleports to Earth to arrange for Nico to come to the Underworld. Nico has been taking care of business in his absence, but he is needed now. He is the only one that Cade will let in.
Chapter 19
The Dark Fae Kingdom, April 2014 – Aefre
I land in the foyer of my father’s palace and immediately find myself under attack by the Dark Guard.
I squeak in alarm and hold my hands up and then belatedly Shift to look like Aeval. Shit. I had totally forgotten. Idiot.
They all relax when they see it is me and Drake strides towards me to find out what all the ruckus was about. He is not amused to see that I have been attacked.
“My fault,” I say quickly. “I forgot to Shift.”
He gives me a deep sigh and then sweeps me up in his strong embrace and I close my eyes and revel in it. This is what I came here for.
“Aeval,” he whispers to me. “I do miss you when you aren’t here, you know.”
