Delinda shrugs. “She’s okay. I don’t think she likes me very much, but Daddy said that she loves me.”
I narrow my eyes in my fury. How dare Pyleah be so cold towards my child? It isn’t her fault who her father is.
“Are you sure you want to live with Daddy?” I ask, deciding to have a word with Kalen about his mother’s attitude as well.
She nods. “They like me there,” she says.
I can imagine that they do. They probably worship the very ground she walks on, what with her being the daughter of their King and the blessed child. Things are slightly different here with me only being a lowly Princess and the obvious fact that, as Delinda pointed out, we look different to them, it is harder for them to truly accept us, I guess. I get where she is coming from and I will see to it that she is happy and comfortable with her surroundings. Even if that means moving to the L.F.K. I swallow and cast a glance at Lincoln, who has a knowing look on his face.
CK is going to go ballistic when he finds out we will be moving closer to Kalen. He may change his own attitude about accepting him as Delinda’s father.
Chapter 23
A growing ruckus causes me to draw my attention away from my daughter and to frown heavily at Drake and Devon having an increasingly hushed argument as they walk straight towards us. When I stand up to see what is going on, they both notice me and clamp their mouths shut.
“What?” I ask suspiciously and pass Delinda to Lincoln, to her delight. I think she has decided he is her pet Wolf now.
“What?” I snap sharply when neither of them says a word.
“Lizzie,” Devon says and Drake growls ferociously at him. “No, she has to know,” Devon adds bravely.
“Know what?” I ask with my hands on my hips.
“Devon,” Lincoln says quietly with more than a hint of warning in his tone.
I look between the three of them and then at CK, who has sidled up out of nowhere to join in on this, whatever it is.
Lincoln quickly hands Delinda over to Maurelle, who has also joined in the show and they disappear quickly before Delinda gets dragged into this…whatever this is.
“Know what?” I yell, taking a step towards Devon, ready to shake it out of him.
“Tiamat has Cole,” he blurts out before I can get my hands on him and I stop dead in my tracks.
The silence that ensues, grows as I try to take that information in. “Excuse me?” I croak out.
“She took him, to get to you,” Devon says.
My heart constricts as what Devon says fully registers with me. “Nooo,” I wail, grabbing Devon’s arm for support. “This isn’t happening.”
CK grabs me off Devon as the tears pour down my face. “I have to go and get him,” I say, staring up at CK.
“Not a chance,” he says quietly.
“I have to,” I say to him fiercely, dashing the tears away. “I can’t leave Cole there to be tortured and who knows what else by that bitch mother of mine. How could She do this?”
“In all honesty,” Devon says, “you did kind of leave him over there all alone. Who else was She supposed to go after?”
“What?” I gape at Devon and his unduly, harsh words.
“I’m sorry, Lizzie, I don’t mean to be hurtful, but you didn’t even think about him. I had to go and warn him and ask him to start using magick so that he could protect himself,” Devon says.
“You did what?” I ask, dumbfounded, but then shake my head to clear it. “I have to go and rescue him.”
/> “NO!” Constantine roars at me, gripping my arms even tighter and hurting me. “It is a trap, Aefre. There is no way that I am going to allow you to walk in there pregnant with the true heir on some fool’s errand.”
“Fool’s errand?” I ask incredulously, ignoring for a moment that I don’t believe our child is in the fact the true heir. “Are you suggesting that I just leave him there?”
“Why do you care?” Constantine asks quietly and to my utter shock. “He left you and divorced you the moment he could. He doesn’t deserve your concern.”
