“Dev, don’t,” I say with a sigh. “I need time to figure out what is so wrong with me that the men in my life think I need fixing. I’m not refusing you now, just postponing. Go. I’ll call you soon.”
He fixes me with an icy blue gaze, and I know he is angry and hurt, but I have to deal with whatever is going on with me first.
He Astraports off without another word and I am left all alone again. Once again, by my own choice. This is getting to be a right pain in the backside.
“Argh!” I scream in frustration and throw the empty mug at the fireplace, to join Fredrick glass. “Fuck everything!” I storm upstairs to attempt to sort out my wayward mane, all thoughts of masturbating gone.
Ponte, Italy, January 2015 - Devon
He storms through the castle and gathers up every one of the fuckers he can find. Lincoln is still roaming around in Wolf form and he wonders if that has anything to do with the fact that Lizzie isn’t here.
“In the library now!” he shouts at all of them. He is pleasantly surprised to see them all obey. It is only after he steps through the doorway himself, does he notice the power exuding off him in a slight shimmer. Sure, he is probably, no definitely, the least powerful creature here, but it still makes him stick his chest out proudly that they recognized the threat.
“You two need to apologize to her now and tell her that you are assholes and that you didn’t mean it!” He points the accusing finger between Constantine and Vito.
Vito at least has the presence to look abashed, but Constantine just gives him an arrogant look back.
“Not a chance,” he says, crossing his arms.
“Don’t you care that she is hurting? Don’t you care that she is fretting over what about her needs to be ‘fixed’? Don’t you care that she is calling Cassis her home now?”
There is an audible gasp from someone who clearly didn’t know that.
Constantine’s steady look slides across to Frederick. “Why not address her latest lover? Surely he is capable of fixing her given the right circumstances.”
Frederick’s eyebrows go up, but he shakes his head. “You were there last night, weren’t you? You came back for her and you saw her kissing me. That’s why she pushed me away. Christ, I should have known it,” he mutters.
Constantine grinds his teeth. “She pushed you away?” he asks.
“Oh yes, kicked me out and told me she couldn’t love me again because you beat it out of her repeatedly! You ruined my life in more ways than one, you old bastard, but I swear to you, like I did to her, I will find a way to end you!”
Devon watches this in horror. He can see where this is going, and fighting was not on his agenda for today. He just wants his sire back where she belongs.
“Enough!” he bellows. “Once again, you are making this all about yourselves. What about her? What about her feelings?”
The two Vampires turn away from each other, but the atmosphere doesn’t dissipate.
“You are just pissed because she bailed on you,” Constantine says with a vicious smirk. “I knew this marriage would never happen.”
Devon draws in a deep breath. He cannot believe that fucker just said that.
“She needs time…”
“That’s what she said months ago,” Constantine interrupts him. “She is delaying it because she doesn’t want you.”
“You are such a prick!” Devon yells at him “You don’t know the first thing about it. You did this to her. Now go and fix it!” He is shaking he is that angry, and that worried that Constantine is right. What if she has been delaying him all this time because she doesn’t know how to dump him?
He shakes his head. He can’t think that way. He has to believe in her. No one else does, it appears. “Go!” he roars at Constantine and Vito.
“No!” Constantine says stubbornly. “It won’t do her any harm to have a bit of self-reflection away from all of you.”
“And you,” Frederick snarls. “She will learn she doesn’t need you.”
“We have a daughter. She will never abandon her, and therefore me,” Constantine says smugly.
“And yet, you seem quite happy to abandon her!” Devon yells, successfully wiping the smirk off his nemesis’s face.
“What is with all the yelling?” Remiel asks, finally showing his face.
