Prologue
It was amusing.
Amusing to watch her truly believe she had the upper hand. Amusing to witness her turn from the hunted into the hunter, or so she believed.
She had, and always would be, the hunted.
It didn’t matter where we were, or who we pretended to be, she was my prey, and I would always be the predator.
But I’d play her game.
I’ll let her think she was the cat, and me the mouse, because either way, she would come to me.
I’d set the trap, laid the bait, and she’d fallen into it exactly as I’d planned.
She could believe she was in control, believe that she was the master here, but I knew I’d always be one step ahead.
I was writing our story, mapping out our journey, and there was only one way this was going to end.
With her exactly where she belonged…
With me.
