So I Married a Werewolf - Page 37

“After the incident.” He closed his eyes and let out a heavy sigh. “Fuck. I’m sick of sugar coating it. It’s a big fucking deal and I’ve never been able to talk about it until now. After I wasn’t able to shift anymore, my agent had no idea what to do with me. My entire career had been built around my ability to shift on a dime, and my body refused to cooperate. But I still think I’m a damn good actor.”

I didn’t mean to cringe, but we were here to convince the world he wasn’t acting. I reminded myself it could be edited out if it didn’t work. I loved live filming, but having control was a godsend.

“I still have a lot of stories to tell,” he continued. “My agent offered me this job. It was different, and I thought it would be fun. But then I realized I was drawn to it for a completely different reason.”

“What did you feel when you went on stage the first night of filming?”

He took a moment before he answered. “A sense of purpose. Determination. I wanted to please Cindy. I wanted her to like what I had to say. And when she picked me, it felt like validation. That I’d made the right decision. And maybe everything was happening for a reason, and it was all going to work out.”

“How do you see yourself fitting into everyday life with Cindy’s pack?” That was Hugo’s question.

“I have a lot to prove to those wolves,” Logan said. “We might come from different worlds, but we can agree on one thing—we want the best for Cindy. I hope that we can agree on what that is.”

“What does having a mate mean to you?” Marissa’s question.

I loved that they all sent over a little something.

“It means treating Cindy like a queen, but I know this isn’t make-believe. I want her and the kids to feel safe and loved. I want them to feel free to be whoever they want to be, and not give a fuck what anyone else thinks, because they have all the support they need from the people who matter.” His words were tipped with a growl.

That would not get edited out.

“If you never shift again, how will you protect her?” No surprise that came from Bjorn.

“I’d like to think I won’t have to shift to keep her safe,” Logan said. “It’s my goal to have a good enough relationship with the pack that I’m not causing her danger.”

A door slamming closed startled us both. The filming light was flashing...

Marissa charged in. “Sorry to interrupt. I just got a message from Sarah—the babysitter. She says she’s watching Cindy’s kids and she’s trying to get in touch with her, but she’s not getting an answer. She was hoping we could tell her that Charlotte’s asking for her because she said she had to come into town to deal with some show business. Was there something I missed on the schedule? Because I don’t have anything down for Cindy tonight, and I have no idea where she is.”

Hugo rumbled from a dark corner of the studio. “I’m on it.”

“Wait.” I rose from my chair. My mind was spinning, and Hugo had already stripped out of his leather jacket, biceps bulging. He tore at his shirt, and Marissa held the door open. “Have you gotten any notification from the team that’s supposed to be watching her?”

“No,” he growled. “And that’s what worries me.”
