Changing Lanes (Devil's Knights 2nd Generation 4)

“Meg can cook, but there is just something different about some of the things you make.” Apollo shrugged. “Whatever it is, don’t fucking change it.” He pushed off the counter and swiped the crumbs from his shirt. “We need to do a few things before the Knights roll in.”
He nodded to Princeton and Murphy. They both followed Apollo from the kitchen and toward the security offices.
I managed to finish my croissant before my dough needed to be knocked down and set for its second proof. I tried not to think about the fact that Pie could be walking into my kitchen in a few hours and focused on the dough.
Three hours later, I had a dozen loaves of bread and six dozen rolls ready for the oven.
I thought about Pie the whole time.

Chapter Six
Soul crushing…
Pie
“God damn,” Zig moaned. “It is fucking bright.”
Demon chuckled and slapped him on the back. “You need me to turn down the sun for you? Good thing I didn’t haul your asses out of bed at eight like I had planned.”
Zig curled his lip and shielded his eyes from the sun. “If you could, that would be great.”
Demon slapped a pair of sunglasses to Zig’s chest. “Put those on and try not to be a whiny punk all day, yeah?”
Zig put on the sunglasses and leaned against the wall next to the front door of Wyndemere. “Thanks, Dad.”
“I’m only being nice because I know King chased you all the way back to the clubhouse with his motorcycle.” Demon rapped his knuckled on the front door. “I told him next time he needs to record that shit.”
“It wouldn’t have been so bad if we weren’t drunk and on foot,” Zag complained.
“Somehow, brotherhood went out the window when King came flying out of the house, and Pie took off in our getaway vehicle,” Zig growled.
I shrugged and folded my arms over my chest. “Look, when King comes flying at you in nothing but his boxers swinging a baseball bat, you fucking move. I can’t help it you idiots ran into the backyard instead of toward the car.”
“I still don’t understand how he even knew we were there. We were being really quiet.” Zag reached for Zig’s glasses, but Zig smacked his hand away.,
They had, in fact, not been really quiet.
Zag had tripped over the garden hose and fell right into the house. Ten seconds after that, Zig went to throw a roll of toilet paper, and instead of streaming it into the trees, he threw the whole roll at the front window. King was out the front door before either of them had managed to get one sheet of toilet paper on the house.
It was an epic failure, that as I had predicted, would be a great story.
The front door opened, and one of Marco’s guys stood there.
“What’s shaking, Murphy?” Demon asked.
“Same shit, different day.” Murphy opened the door wide and motioned for us to come in.
“I like what you’ve done with the place,” Frost laughed. “I wasn’t into the wide-open concept you had a couple of weeks ago.”
“Yeah, we weren’t exactly fond of the remodeling Meeks did, either.” Murphy closed the door behind us and nodded to the stairs. “We’re waiting on the rest of the nursery furniture to be delivered. Once it gets here, it’ll all go in the bedroom next to Marco and Royal’s.”
“I’m hoping that furniture is assembled,” Demon drawled.
Murphy shrugged. “I guess we’ll have to wait and see.”
“Yo,” Apollo called. “Bristol said lunch is ready. We eat now before the furniture comes.”
