Changing Lanes (Devil's Knights 2nd Generation 4) - Page 24

Crap.

Pie looked side to side. “Oh, well, never mind, then.”

“Was it something I should have heard?” I asked. As if he was going to tell me what he had said to Zig. I had decided I wasn’t going to argue or talk to Pie about what he had said. There wasn’t anything I needed to say. I had gotten the message loud and clear. I was good enough to have sex with Pie, but he didn’t want anyone to know.

Whatever.

I was a big girl, and I could handle that. It wasn’t the first time someone had been ashamed to be with me in public.

Pie shook his head. “No, no. Zig was just spouting off, and I just didn’t want you to be offended or anything.”

Right. Zig had been mouthing off, not Pie. I couldn’t roll my eyes hard enough at that lame explanation. “Didn’t hear anything. Is that all you came back for?” If he wasn’t going to tell me, then even better. I could pretend that it never happened, and move on.

Pie smirked. “I mean, yeah, but I don’t have to be anywhere right now. Are you done working for the day?”

I nodded to the sink. “I have a few dishes left to wash and then I was going to watch a movie.” And if Marco and Royal needed anything from the kitchen, I would be back to work.

“Need some company?” he asked.

I bit my bottom lip. This was my chance to tell Pie to get lost and never come around again.

Distance, Bristol! I reminded myself. Distance was what I needed if I was going to get over Pie.

But I had another idea. Pie was using me, right? So why shouldn’t I use him right back? “If you can wait until I finish these dishes, sure.” Whoa. I didn’t really take much time to think about that. The thought if using Pie was much to appealing compared to distance. Could you really blame me?

Pie grabbed an apple from the fruit bowl. “I got time, babe.” His teeth sunk into the apple, and he took a big bite.

I laughed and turned back to the sink. “I’m sure you do. You can wait in my room, if you want.”

“Much rather watch you.”

I rolled my eyes. “Are you looking to fall asleep? Watching me wash dishes isn’t anything exciting.”

Pie chuckled and he did just that.

Ten minutes later, my hand was in Pie’s, and I was leading him to my bedroom.

Part of me screamed that I was being a fool, but the part of me that loved to have Pie’s body next to mine hummed with excitement.

“They keep you locked up back here?” Pie asked.

I laughed and glanced at him over my shoulder. “I’m hardly locked up. I just stay in the staff quarters.”

“Maybe that’s what King should start calling our bedrooms at the clubhouse. Though I’m sure your room is much better than mine.”

I stopped in front of my door and Pie plastered his front to my back.

“I hope we don’t need to be quiet to keep one of Marco’s goons from coming running.” He pressed a kiss behind my ear and a shiver ran through my body.

“Uh, I think the walls are pretty thick.” But they would know something was going on since Pie’s motorcycle was sitting in the driveway. The good thing was Apollo, Murphy, and Princeton were discreet. They weren’t going to go around blabbing that Pie was in my room. At least, I was ninety percent sure they wouldn’t. “But you might want to hide your bike in the bushes.”

Pie chuckled. “Princeton knows I stayed behind.”

Oh, well, that was interesting. Maybe he had said he wanted to talk to me about a recipe or something. Though I’m sure Princeton would have looked at him like he was crazy and knew what Pie was staying behind for. Oh well.

I opened the door and reached in to turn on the light.

Pie pushed me into the room and shut the door behind us. “Whoa,” he muttered. “I would say your staff quarters are much nicer than any room at the clubhouse.”
