Risky (Adventures in Love 2)

As the song comes to an end, my mom, who’s been holding Sam’s birthday cake, sets it down in front of him. As expected, he digs his hands into the icing and shoves two fistfuls of cake into his mouth. Then Taylor comes over to help him out, doing the same while she stands in front of him. I look over at my sister and Mason and watch the two of them laugh. Then I smile for a different reason when Mason grabs Margret’s hand and kisses it, a move that makes her face soften as she looks up at him. Another good thing to happen over the last couple of months is the two of them admitting how they feel and finally giving a relationship a shot. I won’t take all the credit for them finally getting together, but I will admit that I did have a talk with my longtime friend to let him know that at the end of the day, his and my sister’s happiness is all that really matters. Or maybe I should give Everly that credit, since she’s the one who made me realize that my previous comments to both Margret and Mason could have been preventing them from acting on their feelings for each other.
“Ginny and Jeff are going to love these,” Everly says quietly, and I look down as she holds up her phone to show me the photos she took of Sam.
“They will.” I watch her send them off in a text. I kiss her temple, and she tips her head back to smile up at me. Leaning down, I brush my lips across hers, then focus on Sam when he shouts “Dada, Mama!” while holding out his hands. We both walk over to him, and while Everly kisses his cheek, I eat the cake he’s offering, which makes him giggle. Looking at him and his mom, I know that falling in love with the two of them was a risk, but having what I do now, it’s a risk I would gladly take every single day of my life, as long as I knew they would be waiting for me on the other side.
