Epilogue
Five years later
Violet
I relaxed as I watched my husband and daughter play hide and seek in our garden, my hand resting on my belly. Our son would be here soon and we couldn't be more excited. Sebastian Alexander would be the heir the family desired. We wouldn’t force him into the life, though. It would be his decision and his alone.
Little Lena had her father and most of his men wholly wrapped around her little finger. She would be a heartbreaker as she got older, but her heart was filled with kindness and love, and we would always protect that. On the day she was born, Zahn made an oath to me that she would only marry for love, never for the good of the family.
Some had wanted Zahn to marry a daughter from another family to build alliances, but he refused and dealt with all dissent swiftly. So in the fastest, largest wedding I’d ever seen, we were married only a month after my father, much to both other fathers’ excitement.
Zahn’s father was doing much better now that he was retired and enjoying spending time with his family and a precious granddaughter. My father and Isabella were enjoying a surprise bundle of joy themselves. My little brother Laz Altieri was born last year and was already giving my dad a run for his money.
“Oof!” I exclaimed as my son kicked me once again.
“Piccolo fiore, is our son kicking you too hard? My son, you must be kind to your momma, always. No one will be there like your momma. I love you, little bean.” My heart melted as Zahn talked to my belly. His voice always had a calming effect on our son.
“You are wrong, amore.”
“Oh? How so?”
“He will have both of us to love and protect him no matter what.” I ran my hand through his silky hair before caressing his cheek.
“Always listen to your momma, little bean. She knows what is best.”
“Silly man!” I laughed as he wrapped his arms around me and placed a tender kiss on my forehead. We watched the sunset as our daughter played, and we looked forward to a life filled with children, laughter, and most of all… love.
