Zantar turned to call out to her, intending to pick up the money she’d dumped and tell her to take most of it back.  By the looks of her clothing and the fact that she wasn’t driving anywhere, Zantar suspected that she wasn’t wealthy.  So why had she put down so much money?

Unfortunately, his thoughts scattered when she turned to look at him over her shoulder.  The look in her eyes told him everything he needed to know.  And it sealed her fate.  The lovely Faye would be his.  Soon!

Scott stared out at the large, seemingly barren landscape.  But this…this was his chance!  He could do this!

“You’re a real prick.”

Scott chuckled as Petro Zinhaden stood next to him.  Both of them had sunglasses to protect their eyes from the intense sunshine.  But that’s where the similarities stopped.  Scott was barely eight inches above five feet tall while Petro, a former KGB agent from Russia, was nearing six feet in height.  Scott was soft where Petro was strong and powerfully built.

None of this bothered Scott though.  He was the man who got promoted.  During the last two efforts to extract the mineral efiasia from the earth, Scott had been everyone’s lackey.  But Harvey Neville, possibly the most despicable human being Scott had ever met, had passed over Petro for this third effort.

“Yeah, I might be a prick,” Scott replied, “But I’m the prick that’s in charge.”

Petro snorted, the toothpick that he’d been chewing shifting to the opposite side of his mouth.  “You’re gonna fail.”  His smile was lethal.  “And you’ll end up just like the last two.”

The scary man didn’t wait for Scott’s response.  He simply turned and walked towards the line of dump trucks that were waiting for instructions.  The massive drills would be put into place first, then the dump trucks would carry the useless sand, dirt and rocks away, putting it somewhere that wouldn’t raise suspicions.  Scott hadn’t figured out where that dump site might be, but he had some ideas.

With a triumphant smile, he turned and headed towards the leader of the truck drivers.  He had a job to do and he was going to get it done faster and better than his predecessors.
