But Faye would still be here.  She would still be protected since he would leave several men here to watch out for her.  He would wait until she’d finished her dissertation.  That was important to her.  He understood that, but he didn’t have to like it.

Once she’d received her doctoral designation, he’d somehow convince her to come to Citran.  She was brilliant and beautiful, kind and compassionate.  His people would love her!  She’d fight for the little guy, he knew.  She’d look into all of the horrible jobs, the tasks that the average person ignored because some poor, unfortunate soul did the dirty work.  Faye would fight for their rights!  Because of what she’d just been through, she’d be a powerful advocate for the people who didn’t have a voice.

That was exactly what Citran needed, he thought.  Plus, Zantar acknowledged that he needed Faye.  With every breath, he knew that she was the woman he wanted by his side for the rest of his life.

So how was he going to keep her by his side?

For the moment, Zantar accepted that he needed to let her go.  Just for now.  Just for the next few weeks. However, he’d already arranged for Faye to receive a grant proposal from Skyla’s government to study one of their under-valued, soon-to-be-famous artists.  As soon as Astir had heard about Faye’s research, he’d been interested in supporting her efforts.  Now Faye just needed to accept the grant.  It would cover her living expenses, so she just needed to finish her research.

Zantar figured that, if she didn’t have to work at the hotel for eight or nine hours a day, she could spend more time at the library and museum, allowing her to finish her research faster.

It was a sound investment on both sides.  Skyla would gain recognition for an artist that truly was a national treasure, and Faye would gain the international attention that she deserved after publishing her research.  The museum director, Latros something or other, was going to present the grant money to her tomorrow as soon as she arrived at the museum.

She could focus on her research, and Zantar would get Faye to Citran faster!

Having worked that out in his mind, he closed his eyes, allowing himself to fall asleep for the night.
