Chapter Four

Bear

“HOW LONG HAS SHE BEEN out for?”

I grabbed a water bottle from the fridge and offered it to Ransom.

He shook his head and leaned against the doorframe to the kitchen. “I’m good.”

Greta lived in a small house on the outskirts of Rockton that had a large yard with a barn in the back.

Her nearest neighbor was almost a mile away, and I was instantly satisfied that I had come to stay with her. Her place was the perfect setup for the psycho to poach her, and no one would even know until it was too late.

“She passed out in the truck on the way home. I managed to wake her up for a couple of minutes to get a few bites of food in her, so her stomach didn’t revolt against the pain pills, and then, she passed out again.”

“She put up a fight once you two got in the truck?” he asked.

I shook my head. “Nah, brother. I mean, she’s feisty as hell, but she’s not really fighting me being here. She was the one who decided that I would stay with her instead of one of the club guys.”

“Although, she’s been passed out since you got here. She might wake up with a wild hair under her ass about you being here,” Ransom warned.

“And she’s still passed out.” Luna jogged down the stairs and grabbed the lapels of her cut. “I did manage to take her shoes off.”

“You didn’t even take her shoes off?” Ransom laughed.

I shrugged and chucked the bottle of water at him. “Have you tried to undress a woman who is dead weight?”

He snatched it out of the air and smirked. “It’s not something I can say I have ever done.”

“And I haven’t either, which is why Greta still had her shoes on. She looked comfortable enough when I put her in bed.”

She had. Granted, she was knocked out by pain pills, so she probably would have been fine just staying in the truck.

“When does she need to take another pain pill?” Luna asked.

“Now.” Greta made her way gingerly down the stairs and stopped at the bottom. “I was woken up when someone took my shoes off.”

I pointed at Luna. “See, I told you she was just fine with having them on.”

Luna rolled her eyes and flipped me off. “Whatever, Wolf.”

“Can I have my pills?” Greta asked. “I have like twenty more hours of sleep I need to get.”

“They're right here, but you need to eat something first.” I nodded to the bottle of pills next to the sink.

“Which is great since Ransom and I brought over dinner. I’ll just pop it in the microwave for a minute.” Luna walked over to the fridge and grabbed the plate she had stuck in there. “We stopped over at Meg’s before coming here.”

“Thank God,” Greta sighed. “I was afraid you were going to say your mom cooked.”

Luna laughed and shook her head. “She tried to, but Meg cut her off.” She opened the microwave, uncovered the plate, and put it in. “Mom had everything out to make stuffed shells, so Meg slid in and took over.”

“I bet your dad was happy about that.” Greta shuffled over to the table and slowly sat down.

“You okay?” Ransom asked.

Greta waved her hand at him and winced when her butt hit the chair. “Yeah, yeah. I forgot about falling on my ass. I tried to get away from Dr. Douche, but I wiped out by the dog kennels. I just need to sit on a Cheerio.”

“Uh, what?” Ransom asked.

“I think Aunt Cyn has one of those from when she wiped out at the shitter races four years ago. Rigid had to carry her around for a week before she could even stand.” Luna rummaged in one of the drawers and grabbed a fork. “I can stop over there when we leave, and I’ll drop it off in the morning.”

“That would be amazing,” Greta sighed.

“Do you know what they are talking about?” I asked Ransom.

Ransom shook his head. “I am all new to this shit, brother. I am on the outside looking in.”

Luna rolled her eyes and folded her arms over her chest. “It’s really not that hard to follow. You just need to think a little bit out of the box when we’re talking. A Cheerio is obviously one of those inflatable round donuts that you sit on, so your butt doesn’t hurt.”

“Babe.” Ransom shook his head. “You guys speak a different language when you are together. Your aunts are the same damn way.”

Luna shrugged. “Whatever.” The microwave dinged, and she grabbed the plate. “There is more than enough for both of you.”

Luna grabbed another plate and set them down on the table in front of Greta.

Ransom leaned toward the plates and sighed. “God damn, that looks good.”

Luna rolled her eyes. “We ate before coming over. You’re not stealing their food.”

Greta laughed and snagged a fork. “I’ll give you a bite for five bucks, Ransom.” She grabbed the empty plate and scooped two of the shells onto her plate. “Though, you might have to fight off Bear since the rest is his.”

My stomach growled at the mention of the rest being mine. I hadn’t eaten a meal since dinner twenty-four hours ago. “Save your cash, Ransom. You couldn’t give me a million bucks for a bite. It’s all mine.” I moved in front of Luna and grabbed the plate.

“We’re stopping at Meg’s on the way home. You know she has to have more of that.” Ransom pulled his keys out of his pocket. “Now.”

“You’re crazy,” Luna laughed.

I grabbed a fork and shoveled a huge bite into my mouth. “Holy fuck,” I moaned. “If you go get some, bring us back more.”

“They’ve entered the Meg Zone,” Greta laughed. “No one can avoid it.”
