“I can tell you’re the new guy,” Demon laughed. “Just because she told you one thing doesn’t mean that she’s going to actually do that.”

King pulled out his phone and pressed a few buttons. He laid it on the table and sat back. The phone rang three times, and then, Meg answered.

“Hello, daddy,” she called.

“Oh, my God,” Zig and Zag groaned in unison.

“My ears,” Pie screamed. “I will never be able to unhear that.”

“Am I on speaker?” Meg squawked.

“Yeah, babe,” King laughed.

“You think maybe you could warn a girl when you have her on speaker?” she yelled at King.

“Sorry, babe. I was just calling to see what you and the girls are up to.”

“Why don’t you just call Troy and ask him what we’re doing?” she laughed. “Luna spotted him drive by the house twice, and now, he is parked just down the road.”

“Idiot,” Rigid laughed.

“We were going to invite him in for lunch, but Luna won’t let us. I figure when Cyn, Marley, and Gwen get here, he’ll come in.”

“He is not coming in,” Luna called. There was a shuffle on the end of the phone, then Luna started talking. “How can you send my dad to keep an eye on me, huh? He’s not even a member of the club,” she spat.

“I told him to go there,” Gambler grunted. “Since the cop and the bounty hunter can’t keep an eye on you two, I figure me and your dad will have to.”

There was another dig at me. I didn’t know how I was going to get this guy to stop hating me. I wasn’t even hooking up with his daughter, but he was acting like I was some deadbeat who had knocked up his kid and left her.

“That’s not fair!” Luna growled. “You didn’t even give me a chance.”

“You’re a prospect,” King warned. “You might want to take a second to think about how you are speaking to me and the rest of the club.”

Ransom cringed and ducked his head. “I was worried about this,” he mumbled.

“I was fucking waiting for this,” Pie chuckled. “I did think it would be a little bit before she climbed on her high horse, though.”

“I don’t need to be watched,” Luna reasoned.

“Pretty sure Hero and I are the ones who will determine that, Luna.”

I wasn’t even part of the club, and those words would have given me pause. Being part of an MC had never been something that appealed to me, but I got why it did to others. A family and place to belong.

I, on the other hand, didn’t need to belong to anyone and was more than fine on my own.

“What is Greta doing?” Gambler called.

“She’s upstairs sleeping,” Luna muttered. “She’s not at all hard to watch. My dad is wasting his time.”

“You’re watching Greta. Your dad is keeping an eye out for Dr. Psycho,” King reasoned. “I’ll be over later to pick up Meg. Let her know.” King ended the call and sat back in his chair.

“No one says a word about daddy; you got it?” King scanned every face gathered around the table.

Rigid put his hand over his face and smothered a laugh while Zig, Zag, and Pie tried not to gag.

“Anyway,” Ransom continued. “The girls are all safe for right now. You guys need to keep them that way while Bear and I track this guy down.”

“You’re going to need our help. It’s doesn’t take eleven of us to keep an eye on the girls. We even have Marco’s men that can give us a hand if we need it.” Hero nodded to Slider. “Fayth is staying at Wyndemere, and we can always send the rest of the girls over there, if we need to.”

“That would be a great idea if the women actually listened.” Rigid laughed and shook his head. “As soon as they figured out we were trying to tell them what to do, they’d do everything they could do to get out of Wyndemere even though that place is like a five-star resort, complete with chef and indoor pool.”

“We’re not at the point right now where we need to do that. We need to take advantage of the fact that Dr. Lu is on the run. He’s going to make a mistake, and we are going to catch him,” Ransom promised.

The mention of any Banachi made my lip curl. I was cool with everything the Devil’s Knights were about, except for the Banachis.

Hell, that Slider guy was married into the damn family.

“So, we have at least a few guys on the girls, and the rest of us spread out and start looking under every fucking rock for Dr. Psycho.” Hero lifted his hand and sighed. “Unless you have some other bright idea.”

I shook my head. “I’m good with that. You guys can take some of the leg work from me.” The club knew the area better than I did, which would help, too.

“I’ll keep on trying to find a picture of Dr. Lu, then we can also see about finding out if he went to school with any of you guys.” Ransom pulled out his phone and typed something. “I can also see about getting a sketch artist in if we can’t find a photo of him. Greta and the rest of the vet staff could easily give us a good visual of him.”

“I still feel like we aren’t doing enough,” Hero muttered.

King nodded to him. “Relax. We’re better off today than we ever have been when it comes to this guy.”

King was right. Even if Conner Lu wasn’t his real name, we would easily be able to find out exactly who he was with the DNA Ransom had collected from the guy’s house.

“I want to go to this guy’s house,” I called. “I wanna see where he lived.”

“Not much there”—Ransom shrugged—“but you’re more than welcome to check it out.”

“I’m coming, too,” Gambler called.

Oh, hell.

Ransom glanced at me, and I shrugged. Gambler could do whatever he wanted. If he wanted to tag along and watch me rummage through this guy’s house, that was his prerogative.

“Let’s go.”
