“You are using her as fucking bait, Marco. And she doesn’t fucking know.”
“And she’s not going to know,” Leo drawled. “I’ve seen this scenario play out before with your dad and uncles.” Leo glanced at Frost and Hero. “And now I hear my nephews and nieces follow in the same footsteps.”
“And what scenario is that?” Frost asked. “It’s not like we asked for Malcom to start offing people and shit. So what if some of us happened to meet our ol’ ladies while this shit is going down?”
“The scenario where you can’t seem to keep your dick in your pants while someone is trying to kill you.” Leo shook his head and glanced at Marco. “You’re one of them, too.”
“Come on, Uncle Leo. You can’t be that down on love. It happens when it happens.” Marco smirked. “What went down with you and Bryn ten years ago made you hate love.”
Oakley, one of Uncle Leo’s men, cleared his throat.
Leo pursed his lips. “We’re talking about Zag, not me.”
“Yes, uncle,” Marco mumbled.
“Who’s Bryn?” Snapper whispered loudly to Luna.
She hushed him and shook her head. “I’ll tell you later.”
I had no idea who she was either, but as it went with the running theme of the day, Luna knew.
“Are these meetings really like this?” Bear asked Ransom. “Seriously. This has to be a fluke.”
Ransom chuckled and shook his head. “This is running right along like it should. A few dumbass remarks, King growling like a grumpy bear and the occasional mafia goon.”
“I can fucking hear you,” Leo growled. “And I am far from a goon. I will buy your mother’s house and make her my maid.”
“My mom is dead, but thank you for the offer,” Bear grunted.
“Also dead mom for me, too, but I can see why you hate love.” Ransom winked and made a circle with his thumb and pointed finger. “Prince fucking Charming you are.”
“Uncle Leo,” Luna gasped. “What is wrong with you?”
“My apologies, gentlemen. I made the mistake of mentioning Bryn. Uncle Leo tends to take his anger out on anyone within a mile radius when she’s mentioned.” Marco nodded to Ransom and Bear.
Leo stood and buttoned his suit coat. “I’m done with this. If you want to haul your cookies to Falls City for some girl you barely even know, then go Zag. You wouldn’t be a Devil’s Knight if you followed your head over your heart.” Leo nodded to Marco. “Give him the address, and you can find your own fucking way back to Wyndemere.”
“Uncle,” Marco laughed. “You seriously can’t be that upset with me.”
“You decided to poke the bear, Marco. You can now deal with the consequences.” Leo stormed out of church with Oakley on his heels.
“I’d offer you a ride home, but I don’t let anyone ride bitch.” Easy smirked. “Maybe Luna can give you a ride.”
Bear smiled wide beneath his beard. “I like these meetings now,” he chuckled. “Do the mafia goons normally ditch each other?” he asked.
Marco stood and nodded to King. “You have the address of Tess. I’ll leave it to you to get it to Zag. I hope this isn’t a mistake.”
“A mistake like what you just did with Leo?” King laughed. “You know not to bring up Bryn when he is within earshot. You said her name with him sitting right next to you,” King snickered.
“Who is Bryn?” Snapper asked again.
“Shut. Up,” Luna hissed.
“Why do I have to shut up? I kind of think I should know who Bryn is,” Snapper insisted.
“Bryn is Oakley’s cousin. She was with Leo for a moment ten years ago before she ran away and married some accountant in D.C.,” Rigid explained.
“Who leaves one of the richest and most ruthless men in the country for an accountant?” Easy laughed. “I think she might have not all of her marbles.”
“Sometimes money and power aren’t all that matter,” Luna pointed out. “Maybe Bryn was in love with the accountant.”
“That would be a negative,” Rigid laughed. “They were divorced within a month, but Bryn never returned to Chicago. Last we heard; she was working at some dance company as a teacher in D.C.”
“She’s still there. Uncle Leo also happens to own that dance company she’s worked at for the past ten years.” Marco shook his head and put his phone in his pocket. “He says he’s let her go, but I would beg to differ.”
“That’s why Oakley cleared his throat,” Snapper gasped.
Luna patted him on the back. “Welcome to the conversation, Snapper. It only two you a couple of minutes to put the pieces together this time.”
“I’ll be in touch.” Marco nodded to King ad Hero and walked out of church.
I stood and shoved my phone into my pocket. “What’s that address?”
