And my body. . .it reacted. Lust blossomed in the center. My nipples went sensitive. My stomach twisted in disgust. To my horror, my panties moistened.
No.
I looked away.
Devin whistled. “That’s a chef’s knife. A really expensive one. You could go to the back of any restaurant and get a chef to buy that.”
I shook my head. “It doesn’t matter. I don’t want it.”
Quin picked it up. “How much do you think it’s worth, Devin?”
“I wouldn’t sell it for nothing less than a thousand.” Devin pulled out a large metal tray from under the cabinet. “That pattern on the blade is this Japanese style. They dip it—”
“Into acid.” I swallowed.
“Yeah.” Devin nodded. “The complete set is probably around ten thousand.”
“You can take the knife.” I hugged myself. “Sell it. Make some money.”
“Are you sure?” Devin’s face brightened.
“Go for it.”
Devin grinned. “I’m really making a lot of money tonight. We may be eating more steak and potatoes this week. I could use one of the grills near the playground.”
Still holding the knife, Quin watched me. “You sure you want to give the knife away?”
“Yeah.” I rubbed my arms, trying to get rid of the rising goosebumps.
Quin put the knife on the table and stuck her hand in the box. “There’s a message too. Black card. Gold letters. And just a few words.”
My palms became sweaty. I backed away. “W-what does it say?”
Clearing her throat, Quin read from it. “We’re only just beginning, Trinity.”
He knows my real name.
Panic came. Next, heart-pounding fear. The kind of fear that spread through the body fast like wildfire.
Devin wiped the sweat off his forehead. “Who’s Trinity?”
My stomach twisted.
I rushed off to the bathroom and vomited.
Chapter 6
Soon
CAIN
I
headed for Phoenix.
My brothers followed. I was sure they were exhausted and ready to end this hunt as much as me.
The tracker led me to Highland Hills—a suburban section outskirts of Glory.
Newly painted street lamps bathed the blocks in a comforting light. None of the signs had graffiti on them.
Well-kept houses lined the curving roads. Each house appeared similar to the other and was complete with small porches, wrought iron gates, and manicured lawns. Most yards boasted large fruit trees and rose bushes.
Not bad.
I drove by two men walking a white poodle. When they spotted my truck, they smiled and happily waved.
Nice area, Phoenix.
I waved back and checked my phone’s screen.
The green light blinked three blocks north, showing me where Quin had taken the tracker.
Soon, Phoenix. Soon.
I drove the truck forward.
With each block, I checked the screen to make sure the tracker hadn’t moved anymore. For the past twenty minutes it had remained in the same position. I hoped with everything inside of me that Quin or Devin hadn’t thrown it away in some unknown area. And if they did, at least Devin should go back to her place with the guns.
If they fucked this up for me, then. . .I may have to kill them.
I couldn’t let anyone get in the way of my getting her back. While I didn’t want to hurt anyone she loved, I would take their lives if they messed everything up.
I made it to the section where the tracker was near.
This could be the place.
A small apartment complex stood in front of me. It looked to be no more than five two-level buildings made of brick. The grounds looked freshly cut. No major landscaping, but the bushes were even and the trees were trimmed.
Motorcycles and small cars filled the parking lot. It made me think that mainly college kids lived in the area. It made sense due to Glory Community College being within walking distance.
Then, I spotted the kid’s bike.
Her place is here. They did it, they kept their word and gave the gift to her.
Smiling, I drove past the apartment building, made a right, went down another block, and parked in front of a house with the lights off and a for sale sign in the unkempt yard.
I left the truck right as my brothers drove up.
Putting on my black leather gloves, I gestured for them to park behind me.
When they did, I went to the back of the truck. “She’s in that apartment building around the corner and further up. Load the bikes on the truck.”
West took off his helmet. “What’s the plan?”
“We end the hunt tonight.” I grabbed the black duffle bag and put it on my shoulder. “That’s the plan.”
Griff scanned the area. “We’ll have to keep it super quiet. One scream from her and someone will be looking out of their windows.”
I grabbed my gun and tucked it into my waistband. “She won’t scream.”
Griff gave me a skeptical gaze. “Why not? Because she’s so loyal?”
“I brought ketamine and duct tape.”
He chuckled. “Good point, you sick bastard.”
Worry crossed West’s face. “You sure this shit won’t blow back on us, Cain?”
“Wow. Just fucking wow.” Griff shook his head. “Now you want to consider this, West? I’ve been yelling that this plan was crazy since she sent us back the money, and now you’ve got something to say about kidnapping her?”
