MOLLY

On my first day in town, I officially landed my first real job. I would hardly count any job I’ve done in my past to be an actual job, being that it mostly entailed working the good old retail life with a manager who can’t seem to keep track of one employee to the next.

Working at a modeling agency was such an exciting prospect for me. I thought I would be placed in charge of makeup and cleaning the fitting rooms, but nope.

I was wrong.

Once Dean Andrews looked me over from the moment we met, he had me fitted by one of his assistants within five minutes, if not quicker. Honestly, it happened so fast I couldn’t even process my words before they slipped out agreeing to all this.

Mr. Andrews seems to believe I have what it takes to model these extravagant dresses of his, and not to mention the sexy lingerie, for the fall edition of the magazine.

I have to admit, he’s quite the intimidating man. ‘No’ definitely wasn’t in my cards for me to say, especially on day one of being here. I’m nervous as hell. And might I add how jaw-dropping handsome this man is? It isn’t helping my nerves or my impaired mind any bit, which just somehow got me to say yes to his ridiculous request.

His dark brown hair, paired with his light blue eyes, is enticing, making me want just his attention.

And me alone.

He’s wearing a fitted gray button-down, emphasizing every sculpted muscle on his arm that could easily engulf me with one effortless swoop. Just his presence around me causes my nerves to spike and my heart to thump like a little girl with a school crush all over again.

“Molly, what is that you like best here?” he asks me, tearing me from my daydream. I quickly gather my thoughts.

“I like the people here, they’re, uh, nice,” I stumble out. “I thought that they were going to be snotty,” I admit to him, offering up a smile in hopes to lighten my comment.

I tend to regret what I say in these nervous conversations. You don’t get the best Molly like this, that’s for sure.

“You’d be foolish to believe I’d hire anyone who thinks they’re above others. We all know that’s no way to run a business and plus, that’s my job here.” He has a slight grin, causing me to feel uncertain if he was kidding or not on that last part. I go to object his almost considerably rude comment, but he gives no chance.

“Now, I think we’re ready for you to try on that new lingerie section.” He narrows his gaze at me as he redirects our conversation.

I feel my face redden. The intimidation of this man is unnerving.

“You seem nervous,” he says as his eyes focus on mine.

He’s observing me, watching me. I don’t know what to say to him. His attention isn’t calming, that’s for damn sure.

“Do you want the truth?” I ask, keeping my eyes fixed on his. I don’t want to break contact at all costs and give him more of the upper hand he so clearly has on me.

“I always want to know the truth, nothing less.” He gives me a nod as if it’s my turn to speak now.

“Well, I’m just a little nervous if I’m being honest. I’ve only been here for a few hours, and now… now I’m going to be half-naked smiling at a camera. I don’t know what I’m doing here. I’m not sure if I’m cut out for all of this.” I clear my throat, circling my thumbs together in front of me as I try to focus on anything but his unnerving focus that’s penetrating me.
