Lady Boner

She ignores my attempt to get off the phone. “Did you hear that Dr. Rosen is retiring?”
My attention is fully on Asa, so I barely hear her question. “Hmm… yeah, I heard,” I answer distractedly.
“Wonder who’s going to replace him.”
I nibble on the end of a pretzel stick. “No clue, and right now I don’t really care.”
Asa takes that moment to lift his head again. I let my hair fall forward, shielding my face. I can still see him through the thick strands. He closes his notebook and tips his paper cup to his lips to drain the last of his coffee.
I want to strangle my sister when her voice fills my ear again. “Says the girl who doesn’t have to get her annual coochie-check soon. I’d rather have old man Rosen do it because he’s been our doctor since we were born. My coochie is nothing to him.”
“I’m sure whoever’s replacing him won’t give two craps about your lady bits,” I tell her.
Asa gets up and walks to the trash can, tossing in his cup. I’m tempted to go grab it like Rayn asked if I did not long ago, but I tell myself that might be a bit too much. Of course, it can’t be any worse than breaking into his hotel room and stealing one of his shirts and a pair of his boxer briefs. Said shirt and briefs have been my sleep clothes for the last couple of weeks.
“I’m hanging up now,” I inform my sister.
“Fine, whatever. Have fun doing your weird stalker shit.”
I hang up as soon as the last word leaves her mouth. Asa’s back at his table, grabbing his notebook. He looks around one last time before he turns and leaves the sitting area. My eyes track him as he walks down the street in the opposite direction of where I’m parked. I could follow him, but it’s too much of a risk. Besides, I know where he’s staying and Silver Lodge is just around the corner.
Once he’s out of sight, I let out a little sigh and relax in my seat. A moment later, I’m starting my car and pulling away from the curb, already planning and looking forward to the next time I can stalk the rock star god of my dreams.
Harley was right. I am pathetic. But when it comes to Asa Sharpe, I couldn’t give a single fuck.
