Why Did It Have To Be You?

Before I even go a couple steps, Dean is grabbing my elbow, stopping me. “Whoa there. Please tell me my eyes are deceiving me and you are not trying to sneak out of the room after sex. Again.” He emphasizes the last word.
“I mean I wasn’t expecting a candlelight dinner or anything but c'mon at least cuddles.” I turn and look at his grin. I can’t help but smile back. When I don’t say anything, Dean adds. “You know Care, you’re really starting to make me feel like a slut.” I laugh out loud this time.
“Oh I’m sure.” I roll my eyes. “I didn’t see you putting up much of a fight.”
Dean’s smile grows bigger. “You know I can’t resist you Caroline. You are using me shamelessly.” He winks.
I laugh again. “Yeah, well using time is up. Sorry Dean. Cuddles can’t happen with my current boyfriend’s dad because I haven’t yet dumped his son’s sorry ass..”
I start to turn to leave again when Dean stops me with his words. “Go out with me.”
I turn back and look him in the eyes. “What?”
“Go out with me.”
I just blink back at him. “Like on a date?”
Dean sighs “Yes Caroline. Like on a date. With me.”
I don’t know what to say. I can’t go out with Dean. Can I? “I can’t go out with you.”
Dean gets a stubborn look on his face which is super adorable. “Why not?” His voice raises a little with his question.
I lower my eyebrows at him. “What do you mean why not? You know why not!”
Dean just shakes his head. “Brian doesn’t have to know.”
Why does he have to be so convincing? “What’s the point?”
Now Dean actually looks offended. “Ugh, you are so frustrating.” He wraps his arms tight around me, and then he is looking right into my eyes. His playful face is gone, and it is replaced with a serious one.
“Look Care. I like you. I like you alot, and I want to get to know you more. I know things are weird because of Brian, but if we had just met at that bar that night and you gave me your number and I wasn’t Brian’s dad, I’d want to see where this goes. We’ll keep it lowkey. No one has to know for now and we can just see where things go.”
I am staring back at him with my mouth hanging open. Oh my god….Oh my god! Oh my god! Dean actually wants to date me. Like seriously date me.
I look back up at Dean. “I-...I don’t know. I haven’t even talked with Brian yet. I-...”
Dean grabs my hands and squeezes them in his. “Just think about it tonight. Sleep down here and say you fell asleep on the couch. I try not to work on Sundays. Let me take you out tomorrow, and you can figure out what you want to do after.”
I look up at his eyes and my body is screaming to say yes, but I hesitate while my mind thinks about all the reasons to say no.
“Please Caroline.” Just like that all my doubts fly out the window. “Okay. Sure.”
Dean smiles so big, and then he pulls me into a heated kiss. Before things get too far again, I push at his chest and whisper “We’ve been in here too long. Brian could come down for water or something.”
Dean pulls me out to the couch, and we both sit and watch some reality show. He gives me those cuddles he was talking about, and then he leaves after a little while to go to his room so we don’t accidentally fall asleep on the couch together. I lay down on the couch, but I don’t fall asleep right away. I just keep replaying what happened with Dean. Surprisingly, even though the sex was so good, my mind keeps drifting back to the memories of what happened afer. It felt good having Dean causually cuddlle me on the couch while we watched some dumb show and how he would constantly make me laugh with jokes about people on the show. Me and Dean now have more inside jokes in one night than me and Brian had over the past month. I close my eyes continuing to replay the night, and I drift off to sleep a short time later with some of the most peaceful sleep I’ve had in awhile.
Chapter 9
I wake with a start the next morning to a sound in the kitchen. It takes me a second to figure out where I am, but then I feel the soreness between my legs and all the memories come flooding back in. I glance at my phone for the time, and it is still early. I look toward the kitchen and see Dean in nothing but a pair of gray sweatpants, and oh boy is that a sight I could get used to seeing every morning. I watch him for a minute while he is unaware I am awake. I swear I actually swoon as he walks around the kitchen making coffee. The way his arms flex when he reaches up into cabinets and how his abs contract as he stretches a little higher for the sugar on the top shelf. Whew! Is it hot in here?
I shout over toward him “Did you forget you have guests staying with you? Common courtesy dictates you put on some clothes.”
Dean looks over at me and grins. “Someone’s grumpy in the morning.”
I roll my eyes at him. “Why are you up so early? It’s your day off. You’re supposed to sleep in.”
Dean looks at the time on the kitchen stove and then back over to me. “I did sleep in.”
