Why Did It Have To Be You?

Dean's eyes leave mine and start to drag down my body. It feels like it is taking an eternity with how slow his eyes are taking in every inch of me. When he finally looks back up at me, he just mutters. “Fuck.”
I smile at him, and he clears his throat. “I’m sorry I meant you uh...you look beautiful.”
I laugh. “Oh I’m sure that’s what you mean.”
I holler over to Ally that we are leaving and then we head out.
I get into Dean’s car and don’t notice any sweater sized gift boxes, so maybe Ally is right about it being the bracelet.
“So where are we going?”
Dean laughs. “You waited all day and now you want me to ruin the surprise right before we leave.”
I laugh back. “Well, now we’ve officially started celebrating, so you aren’t ruining it anymore you are just doing the surprise.”
“Nice try babe. No clues.”
I relent “Fine. At least tell me how far away. I’m starting to get hungry.”
Dean rolls his eyes. “Of course you are. It’s probably twenty minutes away. You’ll survive.”
Dean is oddly quiet the rest of the drive. Maybe he just doesn’t want to give away where we're going. I reach for his hand to hold it while we drive, and it feels sweaty like he’s nervous. I look over to him. “Is everything okay?”
He nods. “Yeah, everything is perfect. I’m just trying to think if I remembered everything I wanted to do for you tonight.”
I laugh. “Everything? Just how many surprises am I in store for tonight?” Before he can answer I add on. “Although, if all the surprises are as good as this morning, then I’ll take as many as I can get.” I wink at him.
He smiles at me, and I look out and notice we are in a familiar area. All of a sudden it clicks where we are. I gasp and turn to Dean. “Are you taking me to Charlie’s?”
Dean smiles bigger. “I said no hints.”
A few minutes later though we pull into the lot, and I get out of the car. “This is not exactly the fancy dinner I was expecting.”
Dean laughs. “I didn’t really think that was your style.”
Just then he opens my door and reaches in his glove box and pulls out a birthday crown. “Here.” He says as he places it on my head. I smile so big up at him. “This is perfect.” I get up on my tiptoes and press my lips to his.
“C’mon.” He grabs my hand and starts pulling me toward the bar. “I have a few more surprises up my sleeve.”
I let out a giddy squeal and follow him in.
The bar is pretty empty since it’s a Wednesday night, but sitting right in the same two spots where we met are little reserved plaques. I laugh when I see them. “Good thing you called ahead. We might not have been able to get these seats.”
Dean laughs. ?
?I probably could have gotten us in. I know the owner.” He winks.
We take a seat and the bartender brings out some wings. “Your favorite, remember?”
I laugh. “Hey, they actually are pretty good. I didn’t completely make that up.”
We eat and drink and laugh and I’m so glad Dean went this route instead of some fancy restaurant. We finished our food a while ago and are just sipping on our drinks. I look up at Dean over my glass. “So where’s my present?”
Dean laughs. “Eager are we?”
I shrug. “I just didn’t see you bring anything in. It made me curious.”
Dean smiles and nods toward the hall. “I have it in the back.”
