Chapter 11
I sigh as I plop down on the couch in front of the TV in the living room after putting on my pajamas. I’m exhausted. If I took out all the drama from the day, then it may have actually gone well. I made more today than I did all last week waitressing. Although I’m not sure if that’s standard catering rates. I told them it was too much, but they insisted it was what they agreed on. I have a feeling Reed overcharged them.
Ugh. Reed.
He barely said a word to me after he walked out of the kitchen. He made sure to say lots of words to Katie though. It was definitely on purpose. He’s still pissed at me.
He kept his word and helped me to the very end, but he didn’t come home with me. He gave some vague answer like he might not be home at all, and I wasn’t in the mood to try to fight him on it. Maybe it’s good that he’s gone for the night. I probably should take the night to think about everything too.
I mean really, what the fuck am I doing?
I pull out my phone again and debate texting him. I know I shouldn’t, but I can’t help it. I want to know where he is and what he’s doing. I turn on the TV to distract myself from the real reason I want him here. I want to sleep with him again. To have him in my bed tonight. Ugh!
I run to the kitchen after a few minutes of staring blankly at the TV without even understanding what I’m watching. I grab a glass of wine and sit back down on the couch and sip on it while I continue to not understand what I’m watching since I can’t stop thinking about everything that happened today.
After another hour of the same, my phone vibrates on the coffee table, and if I don’t almost fall right over trying to reach for it. I glance at it, but my heart sinks when I don’t see Reed’s smiling face as the background. I took his contact photo way back when we first met. Back when things weren’t so complicated between us.
I look closer and see it’s Jason calling me. I answer right away because I don’t know why he would be calling unless it has something to do with Reed. “Hello?”
“Wren!” he shouts through the phone.
“Uh yeah? Hi,” I giggle back. He sounds drunk.
“What the fuck did you do to our boy, Reed?” he half yells half laughs.
I hear Reed groan in the background. “Jason! You fucker! I told you not to call her!”
I laugh again. “Uh...is everything okay?”
“No!” he shouts again. “Why is he here? He’s been whining like a baby ever since he got here! I keep telling him to go home, but he says he’s too much of a pussy to face you!”
“Ah, fuck off!” Reed shouts in the background. “Wren! Don’t listen to anything he says!”
If Jason sounded drunk, Reed sounds trashed. “How much did you guys drink?” I ask.
He laughs too. “Uhh…” he slurs. “Like I said, he came in here bitching and moaning about how you are fucking with his head, so I kindly obliged in being a good friend and poured the man a drink. Little did I know that this fucker was upset because he got laid. Like what the actual fuck? After that, I had to pour myself another drink, and so he joined me.”
I sigh into the phone. “Jesus. Do you guys not keep anything to yourself?”
He laughs harder. “Nope! You fuck Reed, you fuck me!”
Reed groans in the background again and attempts to talk “You so much as look at her, and I’ll gouge your eyes out,” he slurs.
“Ooo so touchy!” Jason mocks. “Wren, come pick up your man before he does something dumb like drive home to see you.”
I laugh again. “No way. Tell him to sleep at your place.”
“Fuck that!” he laughs. “This man won’t shut up about how he needs to talk to you.”
“You’re joking right?” I ask.
He groans. “At least come here. You guys can take my spare room. Please, Wren. He needs you.”
“Fuck,” I mouth silently. How am I supposed to say no to that? I sigh. “Fine. Send me your address.”
I grab a few things I might need for the night, and fifteen minutes later, I’m pulling up to Jason’s apartment. I blow out a nervous breath and then knock on the door.
I hear Jason call out, “She’s here!”
Reed yells back, “Sit down, fucker! I’ll get it! Actually, you go make yourself gone.”
A few seconds later the door pops open, and Reed leans up against the frame and grins at me. “Hi Wren,” he says in a flirty tone.
I cock an eyebrow at him. “Oh wow. This is worse than I thought,” I smirk back.
He steps back. “Please, please come in.” He motions excessively to the living room.
I step inside, and Jason walks back into the room. “Wren! You’re here! Thank God!”
Reed leans over and wraps his arm around my shoulder. “Get lost, fucker! She’s mine!”
“Excuse me?” I giggle.
Instead of answering, he grabs my hand and pulls me toward the spare bedroom. He shuts the door behind us, and then he pushes me back against it and grabs my jaw as he presses his lips to mine.
I open my eyes wide and push him back. “Reed! What the fuck are you doing?”
He steps back a little and bites his lip as he scans down my body. “Yes,” he answers.
I shake my head confused. “What?”
