Mr. Big Deal (Mr. Big 4) - Page 69

On Friday,we packed up our overnight bags and drove out to the beach house for the first time since we’d left, weeks earlier. We got settled in, and the Dixons arrived about an hour later. They were eager to have Leif to themselves while we went sailing on Saturday afternoon. We’d all spend the evening at the beach house, go sailing again on Sunday, and then return to the city on Sunday night.

While we were getting supper ready, Alexa got a call and took it, standing in the pantry, looking for something for the marinade. I went closer to the pantry door to listen and see who it was, and she turned and held her finger to her lip. She smiled, her eyes widening.

“Yes, of course, I would be exceptionally happy to accept the position. Yes, the first week in November would be perfect. I’ll see you then. Thanks for calling.”

I knew what that meant — they’d called and offered her the job early. They must have really liked her and decided not to wait on it.

“You got the job,” I said and held out my arms.

“I did,” she said and jumped into them, her arms around my neck. “They didn’t want to wait for Monday, so they called right away after their interview of a candidate today, but they liked me best.”

“That’s amazing,” I said and kissed her warmly. She kissed me back and then pulled away. “The first week in November. It’s not too soon, is it? You’ll be fine looking after Leif two and a half days a week without me?”

“Of course, I will. I’ll be happy to. Besides, I know your mom and dad will be happy to come over any time in case I need to go into the office.”

She nodded. “Only too happy.”

“Good,” I said and stroked her cheek. “Let’s go tell them the good news.”

“Let’s,” she said and kissed me again. She grabbed a can of something off the shelf and left the pantry, pulling me behind her.

I followed her out onto the patio, and she could barely wait to tell them.

I stood and watched her hugging them both one after the other and knew that whatever trials we had been through with Blaine and Eric, our lives together were going to be amazing.

Once again, I thought about how lucky I was that I slipped up on the spelling of the email to Lexxi911.

That fateful typo and meeting Lexi911 instead had changed my life for the better.

I intended to make her life just as happy as mine had been for the rest of our lives.
