Fay's Six - Page 54

CHAPTER14

“I’m going in.”Walker took two steps before Stone grabbed his arm and yanked.

“Not yet.”

“Did you hear that? He’s planning on killing her.” Walker’s brain told him Stone was right. He needed to be patient and wait for the right moment. Fay hadn’t panicked yet, so he shouldn’t either.

But his heart screamed something else entirely.

“We need to act. I think we have enough now.”

“I’ll text Sparrow. We need police backup,” Stone said.

Walker sucked in a deep breath. “Tell her we have everything we need to nail him.”

“Let’s move a little closer. You flank left. I’ll go right.” Stone tapped his earpiece. “Stay in radio contact, but promise me—”

“If she’s in trouble, I’m going in.”

Stone nodded.

Walker raced to the right side of the house. The conversation inside had gone slightly sideways, but so far, Fay had it under control. Walker signaled to Stone that he would head to the front yard. He slinked between the two houses, but paused dead in his tracks.

Lee’s voice crackled in his ear like a death trap.

Fuck. He couldn’t wait. He lifted his arm and spoke softly into the communication device strapped to his wrist. “Cover me.”

“I got your back,” Stone said.

No way would he let Lee get away with murder. Not on his watch.

* * *

Fay jumpedto the side as Lee lunged forward. She groaned as the side of the blade nicked her arm. Warm blood trickled down her biceps. She stumbled backward into the family room.

All she needed was her weapon, which was strapped to her ankle. But she had to get it, which meant she either needed to bend over or sit down. Neither one possible.

Lee came at her again. “You’re such a fucking bitch,” he sneered as he poked at her again, this time hitting her side. It was as if he was teasing her or maybe trying to torture her with a cut here and there.

That was a game she could play.

“And you’re an asshole.” She moved to her right three steps and back one, keeping her left hand in the air, and her right closer to her side. Five more paces and she could fall back and pull out her weapon.

Hopefully before Lee dropped on her with a butcher knife.

He swiped at her again, hitting her midriff. This time, he cut her deep. She doubled over, holding her stomach. She bit down on her lip. “Bastard,” she mumbled.

He set the knife on the steps and pulled out his weapon from his rucksack.

She yanked hers from her ankle holster. Blood filled her shirt. She ignored the pain as she pointed her gun at the center of his chest. “This doesn’t end well.”

“Nope. It doesn’t,” he said with a stupid grin. “You’re going to die.”

“So are you.”

“I doubt you’ve got good enough aim.”

Out of the corner of her eye, she could see movement in the yard.

Walker.

However, she couldn’t shift her gaze enough to see what he was doing or if he was signaling her to do something specific. All she had to go on were her instincts.

What would Walker want her to do?

Or what would Walker expect her to do?

Shoot the fucker.

She lowered her weapon. Just a little.

“Are you surrendering?” Lee asked with an amused tone. “Admitting defeat?”

“If that thought will make you sleep better at night, sure.” She squeezed the trigger.

Bang!

The bullet hit his thigh. He groaned, grabbing his thigh.“You fucking whore.” He raised his gun and pointed.

The front door flew open and Walker jumped at Lee.

Bang!

“No!” Fay bolted toward the two men as they hit the ground.

Stone came racing into the house. Sirens echoed in the background.
