Fay's Six

Stone shook his head. “We’ll give you some alone time. Why don’t you call us when you want to come home and we’ll come pick you up.”
“Sounds good.” She swallowed her pulse as she made her way toward Walker’s room. The closer she got, the faster her heart beat. She didn’t know where this relationship was going to take her, but she knew she needed to find out. She hoped Walker felt the same way. Everything had happened so fast.
Maybe too fast.
Perhaps this wasn’t the time or place to even bring that up.
She curled her fingers around the fabric of the curtain and gave it a little tug. “Hey,” she whispered.
“Hey right back, beautiful.” Walker smiled. “I was hoping to see you.” He patted the side of the bed.
“You gave us quite the scare.” Gently, so as not to wiggle the gurney too much, she eased onto the mattress.
“You’re one to talk.” He took her hand. “The doctor told me they had to give you something like thirty stitches. That’s more than I got.”
“Yeah. But I didn’t have to go under the knife.”
He groaned. “That wasn’t funny.”
“I wasn’t trying to be.”
“It looks like I’m going to be forced to take a little vacation.”
She let out a short laugh. “I’ve already been told I have to take at least two weeks off.”
“Want to spend that time with me?”
“I can’t imagine anyone else I’d want to be with.” She palmed his cheek. “Are we crazy?”
“Probably.” He kissed her palm. “I’m sorry I didn’t get to you—”
She pressed her finger against his lips. “You had my six. That’s all that matters.”
