Radley’s jaw dropped open. “You’re Danica’s favor?”
Mazu nodded. “Sorry I was almost too late. By the time I realized the elves had stopped, I’d made it to the third section in the lead. You should have seen the looks on the others’ faces as I turned around and came the wrong way.” She grinned at Cricket. “I’ll jump out in the water level so there be no contest of your placement. I appreciate you taking me, but you should go catch up to the other three teams in the lead. You’re in fourth now.”
“We appreciate you helping us,” Cricket said as she dropped the car into the gear and stepped on the gas pedal. “This is Radley. I’m Cricket—”
“I know, Lady Snapdragon,” she said with a smile. “I know. Now, go win you a race.”
So Cricket smiled in return in the rearview mirror and did as she said.
She had a race to win.
