“What?”
“No one knows but me.”
I gaped at him in shock. I didn’t know how to respond or if I could believe him. I slowly sat down in the chair Niko had moved with the stun gun still firmly in my hand.
“You haven’t told anyone?” My voice was full of doubt.
“You really think you’d still be here if they knew? No. You’d be at one of our houses.”
A shiver of fear ran through me, but I tried not to show it. He raised his eyebrow.
“Don’t act like you’re not scared. You made yourself completely disappear.”
“Yes, I did. Thanks to what you told me up north. If you’re the only one who knows, then I’m fine. You’re not going anywhere anytime soon. I could be out of here and long gone before you’re even off that couch,” I said with bolstered confidence and a dismissing wave of my hand.
“You’re lucky it was me who found you,” he sneered. The lack of control was getting to him.
“Thanks for the head start. I’m sure you’ll get out of that rope eventually.” I stood back up.
“You’re just going to leave me here? I didn’t even get to say what I wanted.” He uncrossed his legs and sat up straight.
“I disappeared once. I’ll do it again. More carefully this time.”
I turned to the door, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw him jump up. His hands were no longer tied. He got to me so fast I didn’t have a chance to turn back around. I blindly swung my arm around to try to touch any part of his body with the stun gun. My wrist was the first thing he went for.
