Maddox arranged her move from Italy back to her aunt’s house in San Francisco, so she and her aunt didn’t have to do very much.
Before she settled in again, she and Maddox returned to New York to have an official dinner with her mother and Danny now that the engagement was back in force.
Tiffany cornered her in the hotel lobby again, gushing about how wonderful it was that she and Maddox had worked things out.
Thanks to Wes’ connections and detective work, they knew that Tiffany was primarily responsible for recruiting Parker and hiring someone to take the photos in Hawaii.
Tiffany and Jeff were waiting for an opportunity and had watched Mila closely since her mother started dating Danny, even hiring a private investigator, which is why they knew about Jackson. Parker became an easy target because of his unrequited interest in Mila, and Maddox figured that Tiffany met Parker in Europe, which was reasonable.
However, because of Mila’s ties to Danny, it made it difficult to go after his children. And it seemed that their failed attempt to demolish her relationship with Maddox had forced them to do a one-eighty. Suddenly, Tiffany and Jeff were eager to get on their good side.
Maddox warned Mila that they would need to remain cautious, but Mila was at least confident that the threat to their relationship was over.
At least returning to New York gave Mila a chance to reunite with Savannah and her grandmother.
Savannah was still in shock that Mila and Maddox were legitimately engaged. But after an awkward initial meeting with him, they both relaxed in each other’s company, which was good. Mila liked Savannah and she didn’t want to have to hide from her because she married Maddox.
Savannah’s grandmother wasn’t thrown off balance by any of it. She only whispered to Mila that Maddox was even hotter in person.
She supposed their return to San Francisco was triumphant. When she met Maddox at his office, it was as his fiancée and not his assistant.
But the moments she loved were when Maddox came over to her aunt’s for dinner or when they had dinner with his friends as an official couple. And when they hung out with Jalen and Juliet’s friends.
It was all the little normal things that were special.
Of course, things wouldn’t always be perfectly normal with Maddox Cross. But Mila supposed if she’d wanted that she could have married someone else. And, in hindsight, Maddox was the one. Even before she knew it.
