Chapter Six

Angela thought she heard a knock on the door. There it is again. “Wait! Wait! There’s someone at the door,” she said, frantically grabbing for her clothes. Shit!

“Calm down, honey. No one will come in. We locked the door.” Hunter grabbed his shirt and pulled it over his head, then stood up and walked over to the door. The others helped Angela get her clothes straight and moved her down to sit on the couch beside River.

“Do you want a drink of water or something? Dad usually keeps the fridge in here stocked. He handed the sodas to River and Rock and opened a bottle of water before handing it to Angela. “Thank you,” Angela said and took a long drink from the bottle.

Hunter shut the door and walked over to Angela. “Todd was playing in the barn with the other kids and fell out of the loft. He landed in a pile of hay and isn’t hurt as far as Felicia and Evelyn could tell, but he’s very upset and they can’t calm him down. I told them you would be out in a few minutes.”

Rock reached for her hand and pulled her to a little room off to the side. “You can clean up in here. I think the girls have some brushes and stuff for your hair. We’ll be waiting. Don’t rush.”

“He’s upset, but not hurt. The girls and other kids are with him. He’ll be fine until you’re ready,” Hunter reassured her.

“Okay.” Angela was trying to process everything and get her body under control.
