Rachel frantically waved to Craig, who came immediately to Sadie’s side.
“Can I help you?” he asked.
“Official business, DEA,” the voice said.
By now Evan had noticed the commotion around Sadie and was working his way across the crowded club. He caught Dave’s attention and Dave followed.
The man leaned down and whispered in Sadie’s ear. “I know you have it, where is it?”
Sadie couldn’t believe the nerve of the man to come and confront her in the club full of people. How did he get in anyway?
Dave and Evan walked up, nodding to Craig that they would take it from here. Dave walked up to the stranger and said, “I’m Ms. Sanders’s fiancé, how may I help you?”
“Dick Anderson, DEA. We have information that a package was delivered to Ms. Sanders’s condo by mistake about seven weeks ago, I need to know the whereabouts of that package. From our intel its contents are very valuable and it is very dangerous for Ms. Sanders to have it in her possession,” the man said as he stood up straighter and flashed a badge in front of Dave’s face.
Evan had come to stand on Sadie’s other side and put a protective arm around her. Who di
d this asshole think he was anyway? Evan would find out how he got in the club, you can bet on that.
Dave straightened to his full height towered over the small man. “I think this is better discussed in my office. Follow me please.” He grabbed Sadie’s hand and pulling her behind him strutted to his office, not looking to see if Evan or the supposed DEA agent were following him.
When he got to his office he pulled Sadie in front of him and pushed her into the space. “Have a seat, we’ll be in in a few, baby. I’ll take care of this,” he said as he leaned down and gave her a reassuring kiss.
Blocking the door and shutting it, he turned to the DEA agent and Evan. Looking at Evan he said, not caring if the agent heard him or not, “Check him out, find out how he got in and report back.”
Evan smiled and, pulling his phone out of his pocket, starting making calls as he walked toward the club entrance. Theresa was at reception tonight and he was going to find out how the jerk had gotten in the club.
After talking to Theresa and finding out that the jerk had bullied his way into the club, pulling his badge and rank on the poor girl, he did a quick search or his phone and called his contact from the DEA. Finding out that the guy did in fact work for the DEA, but was not an agent and was not assigned to this case, set up an alarm for Evan.
Not waiting until he could reach Dave’s office, he dialed Dave’s number. As he was walking up, he was explaining the situation on the phone.
Chapter Fourteen
After putting Sadie in his office, Dave turned to the supposed DEA agent. The man tried to shoulder his way past Dave. “I must speak with Ms. Sanders alone. You are interfering in a federal investigation and I could bring you up on charges, now out of my way,” he said, trying to shove Dave out of the way. Dave was a good six inches taller and fifty pounds heavier than the man, so he wasn’t getting far, and all the threats in the world would not move Dave.
Dave’s phone rang and seeing it was Evan, he took the call. Evan gave him the information he had obtained and acknowledging the info, Dave disconnected the call. The entire time Dave was on the phone the little agent sputtered and raved at Dave.
Puffing his chest out, he closed the space between them and got as close to Dave as he dared. Shaking a finger at Dave, he raved, “I must see Ms. Sanders alone. You are interfering in a federal investigation. I’ll have this club closed and you perverts brought up on charges. Now move aside.”
By now Evan had walked up and was standing behind the man with his arms crossed over his chest watching and trying not to laugh. The man had a lot of nerve to shake his finger at Dave.
Dave looked down at the little man and simply said, “No.”
“No,” he sputtered. “What do you mean no? I am a federal agent and you will move!” He once again tried to bulldoze his way through Dave.
Once again Dave looked at the man and said, “No!” Dave was having fun playing with the man, but the time for games was over.
“Mr. Anderson, we have spoken to your supervisor and are aware that you are not an agent, and that you are not assigned to this case. As far as having the club closed, I don’t think so. Can you explain to us exactly why you are here?” Dave stood a little taller and crossed his arms over his chest, a very imposing figure.
“That’s all irrelevant, I must speak with Ms. Sanders,” he said, and once again tried to push his way past Dave.
Evan came up behind the man and looking down at him asked, “Why is it so important that you speak with her?”
“The package was delivered to her house by mistake and if I don’t get it they will kill me. I promised them I would get it. That idiot I hired to kidnap her didn’t find out anything, and I must have that package. Get out of my way!”
“Wait!” Dave yelled. “You had Sadie and me kidnapped?” He was furious now.
“You weren’t supposed to be there. It was just supposed to be the woman, and I need that package. Now out of my way!” The little twerp still didn’t have the sense to back down.
