“So are you,” Jake remarks from the bathroom door. I wish he wouldn’t say sweet things like that. It’s a business deal, and he’s making me feel things for him that I shouldn’t. When my eyes meet his figure, I see that he has on only a white towel cinched at his waist. Every inch of his body is perfectly sculpted and taut. The memory of his strength wrapped around me as he pumped his cock into me replays in my mind and flesh.
“Fuck, baby. Are you ready for another round?” he asks, growling and stalking toward the bed.
“Sure. It would help me get pregnant faster,” I remark which instantly changes his mood. His expression flattens, but before he replies his phone rings. He grabs it off the dresser and answers it, completely forgetting about our conversation.
“Yeah, Jack. We’re going to be flying out tonight.” His mood has definitely soured. I don’t know why. He married me to give himself a legitimate heir. “No, I have to get back to work.”
I slide out of bed and sneak into the shower. I can’t deal with his dismissive attitude. Work is more important to him. Jack told me that before I married Jake. I wash his scent off of my skin, unwilling to be seduced by him anymore.
When I come out, he’s already dressed in a green, pressed polo and a pair of jeans over black boots. He looks so sexy that I forget how hurt I am by his dismissal and my promise to ignore him.
“I’ve picked up an outfit for you, so you don’t have to go out in your wedding dress.”
“Thank you.” I take the bags and go back into the bathroom to dress without another look in his direction. I see that he’s already regretting our marriage, and the thought burns in my chest. I have to forget the dreams of having him care for me and focus on the end goal. Give him a baby and get the money to move on. Even as I think that I hate how terrible that feels.
When I enter the main room of the suite, he’s sitting there with his elbows resting on his knees and his head in his hands. Hearing me, he looks up, and the lust has returned.
“Hey, wow. You look incredible.”
His compliment hurts when it shouldn’t. I half-ass smile at him and say, “Thanks. You’re the one who picked it out. Are you ready to head to my apartment?”
Jake releases a sharp breath and then stands up, smoothing his pants. “Yes, I’ll call for a car.” He makes a call as I slip on my shoes. I can feel his eyes on me, but I ignore the rush it gives me. It’s just lust. He’s attracted to me against his will it seems.
I move toward the door to leave, but his hand comes up and slams it closed. Jakes pinned me between the door and his muscular body with his front pressed against my back. “You need to stop with the rush to run.” His breath grazing my ear with his husky voice sending chills down my body. Jenna, I might tie your sexy ass to the bed to make sure you don’t split.” His hand slides down my side, skimming my hip. “You’re my wife. Remember that,” he growls against my ear.
“Only until you get your baby.” His hand smacks my ass, causing me to yelp.
“Then let’s get started.” My body tingles with the promise of more. If that’s all I get from him, I might as well take the pleasure. “When we get back.” He pulls us away from the door and opens it. “The car is waiting.”
The ride to my apartment is in complete silence. I want to ask him questions, but he’s typing away on his phone, ignoring me. I go through my phone and see a text from Angie. What happened with the hottie from last night?
Did something crazy. I’ll call you later.
As we pull to the apartment building, the embarrassment of being poor hits me. We’re from entirely different worlds. “Come on, Jenna. We have to mark everything you want to take and pack up some clothes to take with us. It’s almost summer so most days will be warm, but nothing like summer here. Please pack a sweater to go just in case. Whatever you don’t pack, we can pick up after we get you settled in.”
“Thank you, Jake.”
“Anything for my beautiful wife.”
“Wife?” my landlord exclaims.
“Excuse me? Who the hell are you?” Jake asks him, grabbing my hand and sliding me behind him to protect me.
“Her ex-lover.”
“I know you’re a lying piece of shit.”
“How do you think she pays her rent. On her knees.” I didn’t see it coming, and neither did Novak. Jacob’s fist goes into his face, dropping the scumbag on the ground.
