“I love you.” I tuck her in, strip and wash up before slipping on some pajama pants. I hear tiptoeing outside our door, so I open it to see my daughter who’s four rubbing her eyes.
“Daddy, I’s scared.” She looks over towards the bed, but she’s too little to see on it.
“What’s wrong, my princess?”
“I heard mommy crying.”
Shit. She heard us. “Mommy’s fine. See mommy’s sleeping. How about you go give her a kiss and say goodnight and Daddy will carry you to bed?”
“Yes,” she cheers softly, smiling up at me before jumping onto the bed. “Mommy, I hope you feel better.”
Jenna sighs, “Daddy always makes mommy feel better. Get some sleep, angel.” She kisses her cheek and then I scoop up my little bean and carry her to her bedroom.
“Daddy, I love you,” she sighs as I tuck her in for the night.
“I love you, too.” She smiles just like her mother. I leave her there and go check on the boys. They’re sleeping peacefully, so I finally go to bed. Making a large family can have some drawbacks, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.
