CHAPTER6
Later that night after they had cleaned everything up, Jesse and Andrew walked the short distance to their home. The moon was full and bright and the pathway was lit well as they strolled in the darkness.
They both loved Montana. The big fir trees, the mountains, the wildlife, even the cold winters. There was a serenity here that Andrew enjoyed. A peace unlike anything he’d ever felt. It was easy to understand why Jesse had insisted on returning home after his near-death experience.
Several years ago, after they returned from Kansas City, they had built a home on the outskirts of Treasure Falls. It was large enough for a family, though it needed a woman’s touch. Four bedrooms, a large family room with a rock fireplace, and a kitchen a woman would enjoy.
Now he hoped they had found the woman they wanted. The one they could soon start the family he needed. Since the death of his parents and his brother, there had been a hole in his heart. A missing piece.
“What did you think,” Andrew asked, not ready to tell Jesse that he was ready to get down on one knee and propose. It was always best not to push Jesse, but rather let him make up his own mind.
Jesse smiled. “Well, I like her spunk. She stands up for herself, and frankly, I like the feel of her lips on mine.”
Andrew turned and cursed. “You kissed her? When did you do that?”
The damn man had gotten the first kiss. It was something Andrew had wanted to do while they were talking but had chosen to wait. Wait until his friend was there and could kiss her as well.
“While you were getting her food. We were talking and the urge to see what she tasted and felt like overcame me. It was just a quick, chaste kiss right out under the stars.”
Shaking his head, Andrew reached over and punched his friend in the arm. “You beat me to it. I was waiting for you, so we could both be there.”
Andrew could see that Jesse was really proud of himself.
“Yes, I did.”
“Well, she asked me about how men shared a woman. I answered some of her questions, but I told her she would just have to experience it for herself. I think our woman is very curious about what goes on with two men in the bedroom.”
That should keep Jesse awake tonight. Andrew knew it certainly would him unless he took his cock out and stroked it to the rhythm of thinking about Mary.
Jesse’s head jerked toward Andrew. “Really? I was scared all the women were going to leave when I learned the matchmaker hadn’t been honest with them.”
It was a fear Andrew had shared. Many women found two men daunting and fearful. But if she only knew the power she had over them, they became like pussy cats in most women’s beds.
“They may still leave,” Andrew said, thinking he’d seen the shocked faces on some of the women. If a woman didn’t want two men, she would be better off leaving. Women like Mary, who were curious, were the ones they wanted as their wives.
“She asked you questions about what it was like to have two husbands?”
Andrew could see Jesse carefully analyzing why she would ask, but Andrew was glad. She needed to know for certain what she was getting into. Nothing would be worse than for her to back out after they married.
“Yes, she is very curious about sex with both of us,” he said. “I think she’s going to talk to your aunt.”
It would be good to get another woman’s perspective and Aunt Grace would be honest with her. And the woman had loved both of her husbands until death stole one.
“That’s something I don’t want to think about,” Jesse said. “But Aunt Grace will be true with her. And I know her marriage to Uncle Owen and Silas was a good one.”
They walked on in silence, their footsteps crunching the grass as they neared their home. The night air was cool, but not cold like in the winter. The hoot of an owl floated in the distance. Andrew loved living here. This had become his home, and hopefully soon, a wonderful place to raise his children.
“Do you think she’s the one for us?” Jesse asked.
There was no question in his mind after speaking with her tonight. From the moment she placed her hand on his arm, he’d felt a rush of something fierce and protective. Something so primal, it was all he could do not to keep from dragging her off into the bushes and having his way with her.
“I gave you my answer this afternoon. And after speaking to her tonight, I’m convinced I want her as our wife. I’m just waiting on you to make up your mind.”
They walked on in the darkness.
“What about our past? Should we tell her about Kansas City?”
It was a subject they had tried to bury since they had changed their ways. They were lucky the law was not searching for them. So far, no one had ever said anything.
In some ways, Andrew felt shame at what they had done. They weren’t bad men, only men who had taken advantage of a situation and made money off others’ stupidity. But that didn’t make it right.
“No, unless we are forced to discuss the past, it stays there,” Jesse said. “There’s no reason to tell her what we did in our stupid youth.”
Andrew sighed, he agreed with Jesse. Let the past stay in the past.
“Good, so who is going to marry her?”
Jesse stopped and turned to Andrew. “You’re ready to ask her?”
Had the man not caught on that he was certain of his feelings for her. It would only be a matter of time before he fell in love with her.
