CHAPTER16
Later, that morning, Blanche stood naked as the day she was born in the kitchen cooking pancakes. Cooking was something she enjoyed, and now she had a delightful kitchen that was fully stocked.
And two very hungry men.
It seemed their pantry at home was never fully stocked. Quickly she pushed the thoughts of home out of her mind. She would never return. That was in the past. It was best to focus on the here and now, and not what was once her home.
Sliding a pancake onto a plate, she handed it to Jakob. “The butter and syrup are on the table.”
“Thank you, wife,” he said.
“No more having to eat our own cooking,” Martin said.
She handed Martin a plate with a pancake on it. It was almost noon. They had spent the morning in bed with them explaining to her how their life would be. It seemed as long as she obeyed them, they would be happy.
If only she could control this wild streak in her that seemed to like to get into trouble.
Sadly, Blanche was not one for rules unless you wanted them to be broken. It would take time, but they would soon learn that she made her own decisions and rules.
“I’m sure your cooking is very good. And you do realize that there will be times when you have to cook again,” she said. “If I’m nine months pregnant or recovering from birth, someone is going to have to cook besides me.”
“I can’t wait,” Martin said. “I’ll gladly cook during that time, but don’t expect it to be this good.”
She smiled and leaned down and kissed the top of his head.
Jakob continued eating, he didn’t say a word and she wondered if he wanted children as badly as she did. As badly as Martin seemed to want them. Why hadn’t she thought to ask this question before she married him?
The two men gobbled up their pancakes and she smiled. They obviously were enjoying them.
“Luckily, my cooking will only be for a short time,” Martin said. “Let’s just say that Jakob is not a great cook.”
Jakob turned to glance at Martin. “Hey, we had food, didn’t we? No one starved.”
She giggled.
“After breakfast, we might have to take you right here in the kitchen. Spread you on the table and let you experience another orgasm today.”
“Oh, I’m already starting to harden again,” Martin said, leaning back after finishing his plate.
She could feel her cheeks brighten. “I was planning on spending the day unpacking.”
It felt so good to be in a permanent location and not wandering around anymore. And she had so little, it would not take her long.
“Not until after we give you our gifts,” Martin said.
“Gifts?”
“Yes, your wedding gifts from us,” Jakob said, licking his fork. “So damn good.”
She sat at the table, the butt plug making her uncomfortable, but she ignored it and began to eat her pancake. It had been at least six months since she’d made pancakes and she felt relief she still had the touch.
The last time she made breakfast was right before her father died. Damn! She didn’t want to think of that right now. She was happy. She was living on a ranch, and she had not one, but two husbands.
Right now, her life had done a complete circle. But she still missed Rusty, the horses, and even some of those stubborn goats. She missed her old life but knew she would never return.
This was her life and she hoped it would be as good as she dreamed.
“Why are you looking so sad?” Martin asked.
Glancing up, she gazed at them.
“We’re about to give you our wedding gifts,” Jakob said, frowning at her.
“Thank you and I’m excited to see what you give me, but I feel bad that I have nothing for you,” she said, hoping that would distract them.
She still had the two thousand dollars she’d made by selling all the animals, but that was sewn into the hem of one of her old dresses. It seemed like a safe place if she ever needed the money.
“Darling, we weren’t looking for a gift from you,” Jakob said.
Martin shook his head and stared at her. “I think something else is bothering you.”
The man was way too perceptive. With a sigh, she gazed at her men. “The last time I cooked pancakes was for my father. Right before he told me that he’d lost our plantation in a card game. I’m so happy to be married to you and to be here, but this morning I was reminded of home and how I lost everything. Including my dog, the horses, and even some ornery goats.”
The men stared at her. Martin rose and came over to her side. He knelt and laid his hand on her arm. “I’m sorry, Blanche. But we’re so glad you’re our wife and that you’re here with us.”
A tear trickled down her face. “I know and I feel the same. It’s just sometimes a memory will hit me and it’s a reminder of everything I’ve lost.”
“Understand,” he said. “Sometimes it happens to me as well.”
“Come on,” Jakob said standing. “Let’s go show her our gifts. You guys are making me all melancholy. Don’t need that the first full day of our marriage.”
One thing she was quickly learning about Jakob was that he didn’t like to have to deal with emotions.
Martin squeezed her to him and she kissed the top of his head. She was finished eating and she stood and begin to stack the dishes. She was a wife now.
Naked, she carried the dishes into the kitchen and began to fill a pan with water to heat and wash the plates and forks.
“Aren’t you interested in your wedding gifts?”
“Very, just let me get these on to soak.”
