“Now,” Martin said. “We’ll come together, now.”
One last shove pushed her over the edge and she cried out as Jakob held her in his arms.
“That’s it,” he said, watching her face contort, her emerald eyes darken with passion.
The three of them collapsed onto the bed and she took Martin’s hand in hers. “Thank you.”
Jakob was holding her in his arms. “I owe you an apology.”
She turned to face him, her emerald eyes glimmering with tears.
“You’re right. I need to know that you’re a lady. And I punished you harder than I meant to. That’s not right. It will never happen again.”
Martin shook his head.
“Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever heard you apologize before.”
Blanche reached out and touched his face. “Apology accepted. Don’t ever spank me that hard again. But I also have to tell you, that I’m probably not a great lady. You see, Mrs. Newton taught me before I left to come to Montana. Being raised by my father, he had no idea how to make me into a woman or a lady. That’s why they called me the wild child. I raised myself.”
Astounded, Jakob stared at her. The woman he’d married was not a lady after all. He had two choices. He could accept her or he could walk away, and at this moment, he knew what he wanted.
He wanted Blanche.
“I like the wild woman,” he said. “I promise you I’ll curb my expectations. I’ll do better. Just don’t push me too far.”
She grinned at him. “Thank you. And I’ll try to be the lady that you want.”
