“No.”
“What about the baby? Are you telling me I’ll never get to see my niece or nephew?”
Paige hadn’t even thought about Austin’s family wanting to see their child. She pulled her cell phone from her bra, then passed it to Houston. “If you put your number in, I-I can text you pictures of the baby…and send updates.”
With a grim nod, he tapped his number into the device.
“Just so you know, Pa’s not going to be satisfied with pictures and updates. He’s gonna want to hold and spoil his first grandchild.” A slow smile tugged Houston’s lips. “Make sure you hit Austin up for plenty of child support. He’s gonna be richer than all of us…maybe.”
Paige scoffed. “I forgot all about the offer Duke made y’all.”
“It wasn’t an offer,” Houston scoffed. “It was a flat-out, bribe.”
“Yeah…” She smiled. “But what made you say maybe about Austin cashing in?”
“If you’re not here, that means the baby isn’t here. That might disqualify him.”
Paige sobered. “I’m not staying for money…any amount.”
“I know. You’ll only stay for love.”
Paige nodded.
It was nearly two in the morning when Houston insisted on driving her home. While he made no promises, he said he’d do his best to open his idiotic brother’s eyes.
In the end, that’s all Paige had ever wanted…to be seen and heard.
