Don't Go Baking My Heart - Page 16

“Good.”

“So why are you here? Isn’t this cake party tonight?”

“Yeah, but I want to let your mom know upfront so she doesn’t fall asleep or something. And give her time to get cute.”

“Is this a fancy party?” Devon frowned. “I didn’t bring anything except shorts and t-shirts.”

“That’s acceptable. The party’s about her, so it doesn’t matter what you wear.” She rubbed her hands together. “Besides, when the afterparty hits, no one’s going to care what anyone is wearing.”

“Afterparty?” his eyes narrowed. “What exactly is going to happen at this afterparty?”

Reba waved off his question. No need to give him a reason not to show up. “Don’t worry about it.”

“It’s you. I might need to worry.”

Reba snorted. “What does that mean? It’s me? You think I’m going to do something scandalous?” She winked. “Seriously, don’t sweat it.”

She waved at him and made her way inside to find his mother. Her plans weren’t that over-the-top. Although they may seem like that to him, Reba didn’t care. She was on a mission. Get Ms. King in the know, decorate their beach house. Have fun. And possibly get Devon to at least have a moderately good time.

Nothing else mattered.
