Don't Go Baking My Heart - Page 19

Reba was…a lot to take in at a time.

Especially this flirty, clearly tipsy version of her. He felt himself wanting to lean in, too, respond to that ‘I do know how to be a very good girl’ with something ill-advised.

Get back to the house. Drink some water. That’s what he needed to do, his mother’s proclamation be damned. She had probably already gone to bed. She wouldn’t know he hadn’t stayed for too long. He would also need a shower. He didn’t want to smell like he had smoked anything. His mother obviously wouldn’t care, but he did.

He walked over to the others. “Maxi, I’m leaving.”

She looked up at him, confused. “Already? It’s not even midnight yet.”

“Well, I’m going. You’re staying?”

He would prefer she leave with him. He didn’t like the idea of her stumbling down some stairs and over to the house by herself late at night, but one thing he knew for sure was Maxi hated for anyone to tell her what to do.

She waved him off. “Yeah, I’m staying. I’ll sober up before I decide to leave.”

“You can sleep here if you’d like,” Reba offered. She’d come over to stand next to him. “You can borrow something of mine.”

“Well, there yah go. Bye, D.”

“Okay, call me if anything.”

Maxi had gone back to her conversation. As he turned to go, someone cranked up the music that had been playing at a decent volume before. Reba started up some dance moves that made her roll her waist like a snake.

The others were clapping and encouraging her along.

Devon left before he got even more entranced by those sensuous movements.
