Don't Go Baking My Heart - Page 53

“That’s not how that goes.”

“I don’t care!” she shouted, surprising them both. Wow, okay, he was getting her too riled up, which wasn’t the vibe she was trying to bring today. At least not this kind of riled up. She’d gone from the lusting side of the Devon-o-meter to the “If you don’t respect my authority, I will punch you” side.

Devon grinned. Reba blinked in shock. Did he just…? It wasn’t one of those grimace-grins she had seen from him. This was a real, full-on smile. Oh shit, talk about her panties disintegrating.

“Ah,” he drawled. “So this is how you feel, isn’t it?”

“I don’t know what the hell you mean.” She was still too stunned to comprehend anything at the moment.

His smile should come with a danger sign attached. The incessant throbbing between her legs was both thrilling and sort of inconvenient at the moment. Her thighs were crying out for a delicious beard burn, and how was she going to get that when Devon didn’t want to cooperate and ravish her?

“When you try to frustrate or tease me,” he oh so eagerly admitted. “I get it now. It’s more fun when I’m not on the receiving end of it.”

She hadn’t been subtle about what she was doing, but the nerve of him to call her out like this? Yeah, she had been trying to get him to inject some more fun into his life, but not at her expense. Leave it to Devon to still try to control things and do it his way. She was a little bit in awe if she was being honest with herself. Still annoying AF, though.

“Are you telling me you were being an ass on purpose?”

“I admit nothing.”

She balled up more of his shirt because she would wrinkle the hell out of the thing for spite. How dare he try to turn her own plan against her? Oh no, no, no, that wouldn’t do at all.

Devon might think he’d done something, but Reba would show him. “You think you can beat me at my own game? You just made the biggest mistake of your whole life. You will never win this game.”

Her reputation was at stake here.

“I don’t think you understand how competitive I can be. It’s my job to find innovative ways to win.”

“You tried something. I admire that. Truly.” Reba yanked on his t-shirt hard. Devon might dominate at his job, but where Reba was concerned, he wasn’t prepared—especially not for her to tug him like that. He stumbled forward, his face even closer to her now. “But one thing you’re going to learn is I don’t always play fair. Sorry, not sorry,” she announced right before she leaned in and sucked on his bottom lip.
