Yeah, he needed a boost to his armour, stat, before Reba burrowed deep enough to do damage.

“You done?” he asked in the sternest voice he could manage without drawing any attention their way.

Reba remained unfazed as usual. She tapped his nose with her index finger, looking extremely pleased with herself. “Now I’m done. Let’s go, new bestie.” She twirled ahead of him, pausing once to look back. “I’m about to show you a whole new world.”

Devon called up all the strength he could muster. He had faced down arrogant clients who thought they knew better than him. He had dealt with his father when he was being an entire fucker during the whole cheating scandal. Surely dealing with Reba would be easy.

“Don’t gloat. It’s unbecoming.”

“Says you. I look good in any attitude.” She smoothed her hands up the sides of her dress and gestured for him to follow her.

He ignored the tiny flare of something in his chest and pants. Yes, he could deal with her just fine.
