Curious, she shifted a little, arched and rubbed. Little fires restarted within her. An enticing promise called to her, keeping her searching for those sparks and swirls of pleasure. Her sensitized skin grew a fresh batch of goose bumps and her hands required knowledge of his back and shoulders and buttocks. Her mouth sought each place she could reach, opening against his upper arm and throat and chin, learning his textures and taste.

As she moved her hips, she discovered pressure and stimulation in some places that overcame the sting in others. In fact, when her knees bent against his hips, he slid a fraction deeper and the nudge of his pubic bone grinding against her mound brought a fresh spark of need to where they were joined.

She instinctually found a rhythm that built those deep, delicious sensations and realized after a moment that he was moving with her in this dance, meeting and matching her movements with perfect synchronicity. It was beautiful, really.

It was lovemaking. This was how it happened. She clung to the source of her pleasure—him and his flesh and the dream that they were one. He moved with more power, withdrawing and returning, reinforcing that he was strong enough to hurt her, but was taking care not to. He delivered that exquisite sting and the fiery ache that was becoming essential and she welcomed it. Welcomed him. Come back come back. Again, again, again.

She bit her lip and moaned with abandon, completely immersed in the ecstasy his body inflicted on hers. She surrendered to it. Surrendered to him and his ragged breaths and the way he caught a hand under her tailbone and tilted her hips and drove even deeper.

There it was, the pinnacle bathed in light and the chasm beyond.

This was how love happened. In this moment of joy and trust and feeling deeply attuned. Right here, she believed Leander had the power to make everything right in her world. She believed he would be bound to her always and she would never be alone again.

In this moment, as another climax swept up to suffuse her, her heart opened to let him in. She felt her love for him encompass her and believed he loved her back.

He must. He was shouting her name and they were tumbling through the unknown together, knitted and knotted and one.

It would be hours before she saw sex as the false promise it really was.
