Just One Look (Castleton Hearts) - Page 60

“I should get him a bag of food and some bowls,” I said. “If he’s going to be here a lot.”

“Are you into me, or my dog?” Theo asked.

“Both, but not in the same way,” I said, and Theo laughed.

“That’s a relief.”

“You hungry for dinner? I can make something for both of us.” I’d just gone shopping, so my fridge and freezer were full.

“Sounds good. Did you want to come back to my house after?” That seemed like a fair deal.

Theo distracted me in the kitchen as I whipped up some turkey meatballs with sauce and a quick salad and some bread. Not the fanciest, but it got the job done.

Theo told me how good it was, and I laughed as she cut a few pieces of meatball for Scout.

“He can’t have too much human food, but every now and then he gets a little treat,” she said as Scout licked his lips, trying to get any last remnant of sauce.

“He deserves it for being such a good boy,” I said, and Scout ran over to me, seeking a second meatball.

“I’m sorry, I think your mom would kill me, but I’ll give you a kiss on the head,” I said, doing so. Scout’s tail wagged, but he was still looking for a meatball.

“Oh, go ahead. Half of one, though,” Scout said, and I cut one of my meatballs for Scout and made him sit and lay down to get it.

“He’s going to be even more spoiled, and I didn’t think that was possible,” Theo said, rolling her eyes.

“You can’t spoil a dog. It’s not possible.”

Theo snorted and took her plate to the sink.

I packed up a bag and drove over to Theo’s as she took the van and Scout. I had butterflies in my stomach about staying over. Of course, I was thrilled about being with her, but sex with a new partner could go really great, and it could crash and burn. Theo and I had so much chemistry and I knew that would probably carry over to the bedroom, but what if it didn’t?

There was no way to know until we’d done it. I’d made sure to change into cute and clean underwear, just in case.

“Hey,” I said to Theo as I walked through the door of her house.

“Hey, do you want a drink?” She was in the kitchen reaching for a beer.

“Yes, please,” I said, leaning down to greet Scout and set my bag down.

Theo brought me an opened beer and handed it to me with a smile.

“Cheers,” she said, and we clinked our bottles together before sitting down together on the couch. I was practically in her lap and it was amazing. All I wanted to do was feel those thighs flexing under me.

I sighed happily.

“What?” Theo asked.

“Nothing. Just glad I’m here with you. Things have been pretty shitty the last week.”

“I know, I know,” she said.

I put my hand up to stop her. “I’m not trying to rub it in your face. It was just hard not to be able to talk to you. It sucked.”

Theo pushed some of my hair behind my ear. “Yeah, it did.”

She set her beer down and turned to face me and I did the same. The temperature in the air went up a few degrees. This was happening.

“What do you want?” I asked her. We couldn’t do anything until we’d laid out our boundaries and expectations. At least, that was how I liked to treat my relationships.

“Honestly?” Theo pressed her forehead to mine. “I want to not want you so much.”

I laughed softly. “I have the same problem.”

Theo pulled back so her face came into focus. Those green eyes. I could utterly lose myself in them.

“Come with me,” she said, standing up and holding out her hand. I took it with mine as she led me to her bedroom.

Chapter Fourteen

Theo shut the door and I looked around. Theo’s bedroom was so neat. She’d clearly made the bed this morning, and I was sure she made it every morning as part of her routine.

I stood next to the bed and met her eyes.

“Come here,” she said, and I went to her, my legs unsteady. “If you don’t want to do this, tell me.”

I touched her face, stroking her cheek. “I want this. I want you.” I’d wanted her from the first moment we’d met. Sure, it had been completely due to lust, but now that I knew her? My desire for her was on a whole other level. It was undeniable.

“Well that makes two of us,” she said, smiling before she kissed me again. This time the kiss was hungry, but deep. As if we had all the time in the world now.

Theo walked us backwards until my legs hit the bed and continued to kiss me, but her sneaky fingers started messing with the hem of my shirt.
