THIRTEEN

Twoweeksago,Sully had petted me on this very couch and stroked me until I came. What should have been the start of something beautiful had been nothing but a tease of what could have been. I’d woken up on the cushions on the floor, no sign of Sully. I’d been so excited and happy that day. Even though we’d never talked about playing together, he’d somehow understood my needs. Him bringing me that bowl of milk had started everything.

But then he’d left. For a whole two weeks. Now he’d sent me this gorgeous dress and a message through Liam that I should be prepared to work tonight.

I wanted to take a pair of scissors to the dress, but it was too beautiful to destroy. It would serve him right if I did, though. I smoothed my hand over the fabric, so soft and silky. It would feel amazing against my skin.

“Earth to Kit.”

Liam snapped his fingers in front of my face, and I blinked at him. “Sorry. I was… what were you saying?”

“You’ve been awfully quiet lately,” he said. “Did anything happen I should know about?”

“No. I guess you can say I was getting bored, not having done anything in the past two weeks.”

“Not true. We’ve been going to the shooting range every single day except the weekends.”

I snorted. “You know I hate shooting that thing.”

“Yes, but it’s—”

“—an excellent skill to have,” I finished. Everything was an excellent skill for me to have. Just yesterday, he’d taught me how to pick a few locks. Why on earth would I be required to pick a lock? He still wasn’t saying. By now, I should have learned not to ask questions. Such as where Sully had been for the past two weeks. He’d only left an ambiguous message that he had to fly out of state to complete a job. I found it difficult to believe. It was way too convenient for him to be working after the intimacy we’d shared.

“If something’s bothering you, it’s best to work it out now,” Liam said. “We can’t have you being distracted, Kit, and definitely not while on this job.”

A shiver ran down my spine. “What’s so special about this job?”

He passed me his iPad. The screen showed a man in his late forties, early fifties maybe, with salt-and-pepper hair. I frowned at the image. Had I seen this guy before?

“That’s Leo Bernard, the fourth,” he said. “Fifty-two years old, heir to a multibillion-dollar company. He’s married to a wonderful woman and had a son—sixteen years old.”

Unease settled in my bones. “If he sounds like such a catch, why do you want me to seduce him?”

“A few times a month, he pays good money for a prostitute for the night.”

The unease turned to dread. “And that’s me.”

“Yes. Bernard is known for his peculiar taste in women and men. He likes them young. Sometimes they’re not even legal, but he doesn’t mind the age as long as they look the part. He has a soft spot for femme boys, so you’re perfect.”

“What exactly am I expected to do?”

“Get us on his property.” He swiped the screen to an enormous mansion. “We’ve studied his habits. He hires his nightly flavor of the week from an escort service and has them delivered to the house. The driver waits until he’s finished, then gets rid of them.”

“And what do I do when I’m there?”

“You’re to entertain him and keep him occupied while Sully searches the house. He mustn’t know that Sully is there until we get what we’re after. Once Sully is done, he’ll relieve you. You return to the car, and he’ll take over from there. That’s it.”

“I don’t think that’s it at all.” I clutched the fabric of the dress in my fist. “When you say to entertain him, what exactly do you expect me to do?”

“Whatever it takes to keep him interested in you until Sully gets there.”

“And if that means sex…”

“Then sex it is.” He frowned. “Didn’t Sully explain that from time to time, you might have to go further than merely a little flirting and maybe kissing?”

“He did.” Then why had I expected him to change his mind about sending me off to sleep with another man after what had sparked between us the last time we’d been together? The way he’d touched me and taken care of me had held so much promise for the future. Clearly, I’d thought too much of the exchange. I, of all people, should know that sex meant nothing but a good time. But he hadn’t even taken any pleasure himself. Although I’d felt his cock digging into my chest, lying across his lap, he’d made no attempt to fuck me or to get me to suck his dick. And I would have.

“Kit, you’re not having second thoughts about this, are you?” Liam asked. “Because we need someone who can carry out these tasks and not think anything of it. That’s why Sully chose you.”
