“Hmm, you know where he’s headed, don’t you?” Sully asked me.
“Seriously,” I whispered. “Is Liam that gifted below the waist?”
Sully threw his head back and laughed, startling Song.
“Don’t mind him,” I told the boy. “He can’t help himself. I crack him up. Don’t let us disturb your breakfast.”
Song smiled. “Actually, I was thinking of going to the hospital. I’ll do that after helping with the dishes.”
“No, you’re a guest,” I said. “Sully will help me with the dishes since he gave Maggie the day off.”
“Would you have rather explained to her why we have a man recovering from gunshot wounds in my office?” Sully asked gently. “Song and Tack managed fine with breakfast this morning.”
I sighed. “You’re right.”
“I’m what?”
I rolled my eyes at him. “Don’t be obnoxious.”
“Which means?” he prompted.
“An annoying but handsome boyfriend whose first name I still don’t know.”
Song chuckled. “I hope I find someone who treats me the way he treats you, Kit. Thanks for letting me stay here.”
“Anytime, Song. And thanks for helping with breakfast. You can stay a while longer too if you’re still nervous about the apartment.”
“I don’t have to be afraid anymore. You’ve stopped the guys who kidnapped you, and Nolan’s dead.”
I sucked in a deep breath. Nolan was dead. I’d pushed him down the stairs to his death. He deserved it, and I wouldn’t grieve for him, just like Sully said. If he’d been successful, I would have died, and he would have forced Song back to selling his body for next to nothing.
“Take care of yourself, Song,” Sully said. “And if you need anything, you can always come to us.”
He nodded, his eyes shiny as he walked out of the kitchen.
Sully stared at me blankly. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
I wrapped my arms around his neck. “Just appreciating how amazing my man is. I’m thrilled you allowed him to stay here. It makes me feel confident that should anything happen to me, you’ll continue what I started, removing sex workers who are being taken advantage of from the streets and giving them options.”
“Nothing will happen to you. I forbid it.”
I smiled and brushed my thumbs over his nape. “You can’t control everything.”
“Don’t remind me. Please. Not so soon. Eat up. I need you to be fed before I return to the office to talk to Javier.”
I ate every morsel Sully directed to my mouth. I took a sip of orange juice. “I have some questions.”
“What about?”
“First, what did Song mean by going to the hospital?”
“He’s going to check up on Geoff in the hospital. He visits every day.”
“Why? They know each other?”
“No. I think he needs to feel like he’s doing something valued at the moment. He still feels guilty about running off and leaving you. Like the way I feel guilty for bringing you to the place where you were taken.”
“Unnecessary guilt. Everything that had happened was the Grimaldos’ fault and Nolan’s.”
