“I know what you’re thinking, and like I told you before, nothing happened,” Kit huffed. “You said you believed me.”
“I do.”
“Then what’s that look for?”
“Just trying to come to terms with things. Since Ivan’s death, I was resigned that one day I would come toe-to-toe with the Grimaldos. Never would I have thought it would come to this.”
“Babe.” Kit cupped the side of my neck and rubbed his thumb along my skin. “Even though I gave you my opinion, I’ll always stand by you and what you decide in the end. No one else comes before you, Sullivan Matthews. No one.”
When he said things like that, how could I go against what he wanted? I couldn’t make a difference until I spoke with Javier. After all, a deal couldn’t be one-sided.
“What are you thinking now?” Kit asked. “You have that serious face on that you sometimes get when you’re coming.”
I blinked at Kit’s change of subject and his subsequent giggles. “What?”
He straightened his features. “It goes something like this. ‘Kit, I’m coming.’ You get that deep look of concentration on your face like you’re afraid you’ll miss your climax.”
My ears burned as he dissolved into giggles again. I plucked him out of my lap and got to my feet. “If you’re only going to make fun of me, I’ll leave you to eat your breakfast alone.”
“I wasn’t making fun of you. Just your coming face.”
The little imp grinned up at me. “Besides, who’s going to help me with the dishes?”
“Just for teasing me, no one.”
He scowled, and I kissed his lips, then stalked off.
“Hey, Sully.”
“Yes?” I half turned.
“Be glad I’m still hungry, or I would have thrown this donut at you.”
Chuckling, I left him to finish his breakfast and walked to my office. I frowned at the disabled security pad. With luck, Liam would be wrong about the Grimaldos and how their presence here would affect us. I knocked.
“Enter,” came muffled through the door.
Javier was on his feet, Talon supporting him as he shuffled across the room. Sweat beaded his forehead, and from his expression, he was in serious pain, but he seemed determined to move around. Talon’s features were blank as if carved from stone.
“Isn’t it too early for you to be doing this?” I asked.
“That’s what I told his stubborn ass,” Talon said.
“Then why are you helping him?”
“It’s that or watch him crawl around on his belly because he won’t listen to me.”
“I’m right here,” Javier said with a groan. “I can answer for myself. The quicker I’m on my feet, the sooner we can get out of here.”
Good.
“No rush,” tumbled out of my mouth instead. “Kit insists that you stay until you feel better.”
“He’s the boss of you now, huh?” Javier said.
I shrugged. “Why pretend it’s any other way?”
Javier chuckled, then winced. He tapped Talon’s shoulder, and his concerned boyfriend gently guided him back to the bed. Javier sank down on the mattress with a grunt. Talon draped the sheets over him.
