“Now you’re friends?”
He shrugged. “He almost got me killed. I almost got his man killed. We decided to call it even.”
“Not even close.” I kissed his jawline. “He came after you. You didn’t go after Javier.”
“Still, isn’t it more fun being friends than enemies?”
“Maybe.”
“Plus, I’m going to make him a puppy.”
“What?”
“I’m going to teach him to be a puppy. With our stressful lives of being with badass men, we need something to help us relax. He’s way too serious and tense.”
“Hmm, that’s the reason you want to make him a puppy?”
“Yes. What else?”
“Kit.”
“Hmm?”
“I don’t believe you.”
“All right, fine. The idea of having a puppy to play with when I’m in kitty space just sounds fun.”
I sighed. “Kit, you know they won’t be staying here forever, don’t you?”
“I know.”
“Okay. Don’t get too attached.”
“I won’t.”
I gently turned him. “I’m serious, Kit. This whole dynamic is too new. We don’t know how much we can trust them. Don’t let your guard down.”
He sighed. “Why do you always have to be so serious?”
“I take your safety seriously. You’re my top priority. Don’t you know that?”
He nodded. “I do. And I love you for it.”
“I love you.”
I lowered my head and kissed him. He twined his arms around my neck and moved into the kiss.
“But so you know,” he whispered between kisses. “I’m still going to make him into a puppy.”
